There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Daily Star which reveals actress Sue Johnston's starting scenes on Corrie as St Ella's mum Gloria Price.
The Star says Gloria causes chaos when she bars punters from the Rovers. They say that Gloria risks a Rovers Return revolt as within hours her sharp putdowns start to rub everyone up the wrong way.
Gloria decides to have a suggestion box to improve the bar service but it back-fires when Norris resident brands her “vulgar and loud”.
She bars Norris, Mary and Dennis and then has a go at Owen when she decides he’s a gangster and is only using his building business as a cover.

Ooh, sounds fun to me!

Reminds me of temporary bar-manager Lillian Spencer when she barred Norris and Rita. Maureen Lipman was great.
Another crotcety old bat on Corrie...like they don't have enough. I suppose with Roy's mum on leave they have to fill in the spot of the smart alecky old lady with the one liner put downs..I suppose she'll tell Stella what a disappointment she's been etc etc.
I'm waiting for the show-down where Stella accuses Gloria of never being there for her etc. and how she had to bring herself up. If this happens, it might explain why Stella now has this compulsion to constantly offer her counselling services.
Sounds like what Sylvia did in the Cafe. Baring customers, charging them extra for salt etc. Its basically the same storyline, old lady enters show for 1 episode, thinks they are the boss, customers leave, come back within 2 episodes. Come on now really? Surely they didnt have 2 repeat a storyline that has been done LESS THAN 1 YEAR AGO.
Sigh
Not to mention, nearly every character who starts out as aggressive, prickly, bitchy, whatever, eventually mellows out: Owen, Izzy, Sylvia, the Windasses...
