Corrie producer Iain MacLeod's first episodes air next week

New Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod took over from Kate Oates in the summer of this year. But such is the forward planning on shows like Coronation Street, that it's taken a while for the new producer's work to be shown on screen.

I can confirm that episodes shown next week, starting Wednesday 12 December, will be produced by Iain MacLeod.

Monday night's episodes on 10 December will still be produced by Kate Oates, and these are her final episodes as Corrie producer.

Let's hope it'll be a very Merry Christmas indeed.

Can't wait, I switched off for nearly a year and have only just started watching again.
If things don't improve I'll be switching off again. Such a shame, I've watched corrie from the start and was never tempted to switch off before.
It's always had its ups and downs but never has it been so down for so long.

Whilst the shape of the storylines and overall direction were no doubt down to Ms Oates I am hopeful that some of the lighter tone and revised approach have had an input as they came to screen from Mr MacLeod and hope this is a sign of the way things are going to develop.

Kudos to Kate Oates for doing the big storylines, she's handled them so well. On the one hand, I'll be sad to see her go. But on the other, there needs to be some humour to balance out the darkness, and there's been precious little of that. There's far too many daft plots that go nowhere.

Kate has been criticised for being too "dark" with storylines like David's rape. I disagree, I thought that was well handled. She needs to be criticised for coming up with utter rot like the Jim McDonald/Katie-Hannah storyline, surely the weakest thing Corrie has ever done, not to mention the sheer stupidity of the upcoming Robert/Kate baby or the true horror that is Jude & Angie! (Jangie? Angude?)

I'm afraid the new director will have to be in post for months before all the loose ends of various stories have been tied up. Add to the stupid storylines above: Sally and her unbelievably inept legal team who didn't bother to check whether Ian's wife was dead, Sophie who didn't ring her sister who was friends with Ian's daughter, hotel receipts which didn't appear to have dates on them. Fed up with Brian being made to look an absolute fool, and sad to see Peter's character trying to claw some dignity back after the Toyah fiasco going on for far too long.

… for Ian, read Duncan.

I agree with both Humpty Dumpty and shutterfly. there were some great 'television'storylines but I always felt like KO was playing Barbie dolls with our beloved characters and just hurt them and smashed them about so she could show her style and then move along to a newer platform. An American Girl set maybe, lol!
