Jack P Shepherd signs up to Corrie for another year
While Coronation Street never comment on any of the contracts signed or not, by its cast members, The Sun says that Jack P Shepherd has just signed up to play David Platt for at least another year.
This is great news for Platt fans, and great news for those of use who are loving watching David on the Street.
However, I'm not totally convinced by David's relationship with Shona. Is it just me? Or are you enjoying them both together?

Only a year? I would think they'd want to sign him up for longer, since he's brilliant.
I like the relationship with Shona. They both have 'darkness' in their pasts, and the twist with Shona's son being the killer of David's wife makes it an interesting twist. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Plus, they're just cute together, and it's nice to see them both have some happiness....for the moment anyway.
I agree with the post above. I too like David with Shona. David’s darker side compliments her not so great background. I think they could work just fine. Remember that Kylie was a con artist when David met her and a terrible mother too. It wasn’t until she married David that she softened and became the Kylie we all learned to love.
Give Shona a chance. I like her!
If her son hadn’t murdered his wife, I might. If fatherhood hadn’t made him more than just Demon David, I might. There are a million twisted things she could have done in the past, it didn’t have to be that. And the spark between them seems forced, IMHO. I don’t dislike Shona but not crazed about this coupling so far.
Not sure I'm behind the couple either. I think of Shona as David's "recovery" relationship, someone that helps him learn to move forward from Kylie's death. It almost feels like she's mothering him.
As far as the one year contract, I think that's pretty standard. They all renew on an annual basis.
Jeanie (anon):
She's always seemed a bit too delicate and bland--none of the rough edge of Kylie, Becky, Gemma etc. Particularly her response to conflict--that gentle patient smile, rather than a banshee screech. She's got more of a Madonna thing going on, despite her back story. Agree with Tvor that it seems almost like a mothering relationship--both in the appearance and also the behavior between them--where Shona often seems nurturing, gentle, calming. David, despite his age, would look a better fit with Clayton in juvenile than he does with Shona.
Jack P S is a Peter Pan. He has a boyish charm and will probably always look younger than his years. Lucky guy, but that appearance mis-match gets in the way of this storyline. The same problem was true of Lloyd and Mandy, who seemed like Lloyd's older sister rather than his lover. I get that a lot of stories will stem from David and Shona's pairing: Clayton, Clayton's dad, another baby perhaps. Doesn't work for me, though.
I am very happy that Jack has signed on for another year, David is my favourite character by a long shot.
BUT I really don't like David with Shona. They are not even slightly compatible, they look all wrong and they have no spark of chemistry between them. And I honestly don't think David would touch Shona with a bargepole merely because of who she is. It's just wrong.
Happy he's renewed his contract. Still can't see anything more between David and Shona than the makings of a good friendship if, and only if, she wasn't Clayton's mother. David isn't the type to let go of that and she's the type to always believe her son can be reformed even as his criminal record lengthens.
I'm just not finding the David/Shona relationship to be believable.
I really like them as a couple, because they often have a really good laugh together - more than I can say about almost all the other couples on the Street. Toyah and Peter are so serious, I want to smack their faces!
In comparison to Peter and Toyah, the chemistry between this couple is off the charts, lol.
But in all seriousness, something's missing there for me too. It seems forced and contrived. And I just don't buy that David would date the mother of Kylie's killer, simply for the potential pain it will cause the kids when they find out. Wonder if there's a planned storyline of Max finding out and the aftermath of that discovery?
