Brooke Vincent to take break from Coronation Street

Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster on Coronation Street, is to take a break from the show. The Mirror has the news today and Brooke has confirmed int on twitter.

The actress is going to star in theatre as a pregnant mum in a play based at The Lowry Theatre in Salford next year.

I am very happy to hear this news, not because it means less Sophie on our screens, but because it means that a young actress will have the most wonderful experience in live theatre.  That can only do her career good and extend her acting experience.

The current storyline for Sophie with her helping dad Kevin at the garage is a good move for the character and I hope this story develops before Brooke leaves the show on her break.

Have a look at our list of other Corrie actors who are leaving, taking a break or joining the show.

Brooke's being doing this job since she was a child - it's good that she's willing to try and expand her work experience and also her acting talents. I imagine she has a job for life at Corrie and it would be very easy for her to just take that and not try.

Good for her and I wish her luck. It's no fault of Brooke Vincent that her character has been so unsatisfactory in recent years. She said in an interview that when she once asked for help in how to play the role, a director told her to just be herself. I hope she gets a lot more guidance in her future career.

I like Sophie and I think she is woefully under used. I hope this break helps Brooke develop in many ways, and when/if she returns she will have more challenging story lines.

She's going to have to learn a lot of technique very quickly if she's to cut it on the stage. It's a very different ball game. Acting skills are readily transferable from stage to screen but it's trickier the other way around. Still, this experience could work wonders for her mumbling! I wish her a great & productive time.

Good for her, I wish all the best. She's been terriblly underused, she is capable of so much more.

I will not miss Sophie one bit. However, it seems unfortunate that they've finally given her something meaningful and ambitious to do and she's leaving.

Hope she's gone for good. Sorry.

So long mumbles.

I liked when Sophie was younger and her and Kevin had a bit more banter between them when Sally would fawn over Rosie. I was hoping that as they grew into adults Sophie would turn out to be successful and Rosie would struggle, but instead the writers tossed her into the corner shop to fester. I hope when she comes back from her break Sophie goes back to school or does something more interesting.
Best of luck on the stage Brooke!

I sincerely hope she is a smash hit in her new play... then she might not return to the Street at all.

Sorry, but I find her little girl way of talking all the time incredibly irritating, and at the risk of being controversial, I find it impossible to believe in her as a lesbian character.

Her character has been totally identified by her sexuality it seems. One storyline after another featuring another girlfriend for Sophie. I guess there really was nowhere else for this character to go and yes..she mumbles sometimes..hopefully some time on stage will cure her of that. Good luck and all that

I wish her all the luck in the world! Hopefully her stage career will take off and she will not return to Corrie. Her character is one note and will not miss her one bit. Again, I wish Brooke all the success in the world!
