Anne Kirkbride to be honoured at tonight's National TV Awards

William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, will lead a tribute to Anne Kirkbride at the National Television Awards which take place tonight, Weds 21 January.

Filming on the set was cancelled yesterday as a mark of respect for Anne Kirkbride, who died on Monday evening.

An NTA source told the Mirror: "We couldn’t have the awards without a proper tribute to Anne. It will be emotional on the night for Bill and the cast who come down to London."

"We can’t arrange or manufacture any applause on a live show but the hope is there will be a standing ovation at the end of Bill’s speech.

"It should end up like when there is a minute’s applause at sporting events when there is a death. It would be a wonderful TV moment for Anne.’

A Corrie source added that a ‘small group’ of cast members will turn up the awards to pay their respects to Anne.

The NTA's start at 7.30pm tonight on ITV.  Tonight's episode of Coronation Street is screened at the earlier time of 7pm.
