Marc Baylis, who plays Rob Donovan in Coronation Street, was interviewed on This Morning this week, talking about how Rob and Peter are set to become embroiled in a
dramatic plot of back-stabbing and scheming this summer.
This storyline was one that was going to feature a lot of Ken Barlow, says The Mirror, but as we know, William Roache won't be appearing in the show while legal proceedings are ongoing.
Anyway, in his interview Marc says: “It’s the rivalry between Peter and Rob... you will see it over the
summer this is the just the beginning of everything else. This is the whole precipice that’s being set up at the moment, it
does erupt in the bookies. It’s really nice at the moment because of Rob
being in there, the reason why he’s there is because of Carla. Rob doesn’t think Peter is good enough for Carla. And that’s what’s underneath it all and it gets a bit dirty.”
“The rivalry takes hold more than anything else and basically Rob and
Tracy want to be Peter and Carla, they want to be successful. It’s the
ambition and the drive that creates that pride that makes the arguments
happen. And Rob stupidly tries to stitch his sister up.”
Viewers are about to get more history of Rob and Carla’s past
too – something which helps to explain why relations are so strained
between them.
“A lot more of the history comes out. There is a section in a few
weeks where Carla tells her side of the story and Rob tells his story. What manifests is that Carla could have helped when their mother got
into trouble financially because she was living the high life. Rob did
that job because of the fact Carla wasn’t helping out, so all of this is
the undertone of what’s happened eight years ago.”

So in the Peter vs Rob war, whose side are you on? I'm on Peter's side, all the blummin' way!

I watched Marc's interview.
So glad they are giving us viewers a chance to learn more about Carla and Rob's history. Finally.
It sounds like a great storyline! I love Carla and Peter together, so I can't wait.
I do hope that Rob and Tracy get arrested for the fast one they're pulling on Carla. As ex-jailbirds, wouldn't they (or, at least, Tracy who is on licence, I think) be sent back to prison?
Queen Carla will wipe the floor with them anyway.
It will be Rob's own fault if he listens to Tracyluv (who is blatantly jealous of Carla) and gets sent back to prison.
Team Peter and Carla!
Tracey isn't on licence - her conviction was quashed. Rob on the other hand, almost certainly would be on licence after serving 8 years for robbery - unless he'd misbehaved that much in prison that he served right to the end of his sentence. It would be nice if they even alluded to this occasionally.
That last bit about their history has been mentioned before, when he first arrived. They had a bit row about it. Yes, Rob got into a bit of bother after he arrived and was scared it would put him back in the nick if someone made a complaint. Forget what it was at the moment.
Please, somebody complain...anything to get him back in the nick and off our screens...
Well, if Peter is going to mix it up with Rob, he'd better start working out. He looks like a skinny old man...Rob could thump him in a minute. Sorry, but the Peter that left and the one that came back are 2 different characters...IMO.
Tvor... wasn't that when he cooked the books at the factory to get a lower evaluation and Carla found out about it?
I like Peter's new look, lean and sharp. It's consistent with him going off the booze. Apparently the actor went on a Buddhist retreat during his time off and shed some pounds. IMO, he looks fab!
Tracy's just jealous because she couldn't get her fabulous lifestyle the same way Carla did: marrying a smart, ambitious and hardworking man :) Oh, and then getting all of his money after he dies in a freak car accident with a prostitute locked in the back seat. Carla just attracts a better class of man, I guess.
Honestly, who cares? Carla, Rob, and Tracey are not characters worth effort. I'm one of the ones disappointed about Peter ending up with Carla, so I'm not even caring much about him these days. This stuff is just filler, it's not good character or story development in my opinion.
For those wondering, Rob's bother of trouble when he arrived on the street involved Ryan while he was doing cocaine: Ryan went to steal from the factory one night to feed his habit, Rob caught him and attacked him. Rob had to beg Michelle & Ryan not to report him to the police to avoid returning to jail.
He's just not going to learn being involved with Tracy, is he...?
It be funny if Tracey got sent down for something Rob did, quite fitting actually.
