Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 23rd June

Dylan, Amy, Brody, Aadi, Lauren, Asha, Nina, Summer and Betsy - Coronation Street - ITV

I must admit that I was dreading this episode when I read the preview. The youngsters take LSD. Oh god. lots of jump cuts, lots of swirly-whirly camera. Someone having a bad trip and freaking out. The Inside Soap award for Best Hollyoaks-style Episode.

But apart from the jump from Aadi planning the party - on a Monday, you can tell he's never organised a soiree before - to the party in full 4 p.m. swing with Summer dressed as Florence Pugh (have you never watched that film, hun? It doesn't end well) and drinking the first of Summer's wine, it still felt like Corrie. Brody and Dylan have invited themselves along, to Aadi's disgust and he throws them out, not before confiscating Brody's bottle of LSD.

He and Amy share a moment and a kiss (they haven’t been it very much recently whilst we went through the entirety of the Michaelis' and Kit's history but I thought their relationship might have progressed a bit off-screen), but Amy tells Asha she felt nothing. Aadi, taking umbrage, decides to drop some acid, man, with Nina and reformed good girl, Summer. But before he can neck his L(emoande)SD, Asha makes him clear up somebody’s vomit. It's funny how Asha, previously Cody's girlfriend, is now the sensible one and Aadi, the former mini-Dev, now wants to be the rock 'n' roller. But who had the third glass? I thought it might be Asha and she'd crash her ambulance but there's no money in the budge for another big stunt, so it's Lauren (little Frankie must be big enough to look after himself now) who's the unwitting recipient and she leaves the party to stalk the streets (the bins have eyes! The ceramic post-boy outside the Kabin talks to her!).

Meanwhile, Carla gives Betsy £20 to go lock up the factory, so she and Lisa can go out on the town (again, on a Monday). This seems like a bad plan given that last time Betsy had keys to the factory, she let in Mason's brothers, who attacked Carla, which meant she needed a kidney, which in turn led to the return of Rob and ended up with Betsy being shot. This time it only leads to Lauren seeing Joel (Calum Lill  is back, baby! I guess it's a long time 'til panto season) as a mannequin threatening her and her eventual rescue.

The whole thing was Bernie's fault as she was taunting Aadi about his boring life and going on about Spike Island (or something) again. It's also her fault in the B story as, concerned about the rancour between her son and her grandson, she reveals the DNA test to Brody. This goes as well as might be expected. Plus we haven't seen the Battersby-Winter-Browns for a bit, but I expect our Ches is not going to be happy at being (tangentially) related to his tormentor.

And finally, Summer and Nina return to the cafe, terrified and clinging to each other as they hear sirens. Something terrible has happened and they just walked away. I know what you did last, Summer!
