I can't stand St Ella of the Back Room. I've tried and I've failed to like her.
You, on the other hand, may enjoy her. And if you do then you'll be happy to read that Michelle Collins, the actress who plays Stella Price, has signed to Coronation Street until April 2014, says Digital Spy.
However, to this Corrie fan of almost 40 years, Stella Price is a void, a blank, a
waste of a space in my favourite soap and could very well be the reason
I stop watching Coronation Street.

If this is true Flaming Nora, I think we have to retire to a secret chamber, vote for a new executive producer and send smoke signals down Coronation Street!
CAN'T STAND HER!
Oh gawd, nooooooooooo!! :-(
~JB in Canada
Lucky Michelle . Regular wage guaranteed as rovers manager because shell be in most scenes . Wall to newly decorated post fire wall boredom for us viewers . Obviously the viewers opinions don't count for anything . St Ella of the back room . Big yawn !
The fire would have been a perfect opportunity to cast a different actress as Stella. Face burns, plastic surgery would suffice to bring in some pizzaz. No matter. I am less and less interested in this soap which can't be a bad thing.
Excellent..... sorry you lot but like her!!

Sorry, that should read ....I like her!!

Oh Flaming Nora, you probably need a lie down - very bad news indeed!
ChiaGwen, I don't know if I need a lie down, but I do need half a stout in The Snug, that's for sure!
With any luck she'll get locked in the cellar for that time and all we'll hear from her is some knocking on the floor of the Rovers
Rebecca
Well, why the heck not? Didn't they sign that Antony Cotton up for the next foreseeable? And he's barely on the bloody screen! She must have some serious connections, that's all I can say!
Terrific. 2 more years of The Beige Lady. :( Her wardrobe must be inspired by her acting. And since we have to look at her so much, could she please do something about her hair and makeup? If she gets any more colorless and bland she'll soon be invisible. Which come to think of it, may not be such a bad thing!
I really like her too. I wonder why some people here still watch the programme when they don't seem to enjoy anything about it!
The reason people still watch the show is the same reason people still support their failing football club. Loyalty and the triumph of hope over experience.
Who's next up? Kate Ford on a 5 year contract?
Actually, Chatty Kathy, it's ONE more year of The Beige Lady - please don't depress us any more than we already are. :-)
I can't say I'm happy to know that she's going to be around for at least another year.
If they created an interesting friendship, then that might work for Stella.
Stella and Carla perhaps?
Leanne wouldn't be happy about it but who cares.
Okay I can't believe I am going to say this.....but I am slowly losing interest with Corrie, all the teenage angst, no strong female leads (well at least with interesting story lines) It seems that all the actors over the age of 35 are being pushed aside for the youngsters.
WTF WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
NO!
She's so stiff and agreed about her wardrobe.
As is usual the new producer is just going to carry on like the last one, dead wood and ridiculous exhausted characters get their contracts renewed over and over and just the token reasonably new character like Brian gets the sack. A total cop out Mr Blackburn, you have turned out to be a disappointment
I don't get it either. The whole Stella clan could leave and I doubt anyone would notice. The family might have been ok if 'she' wasn't shoved into every scene from the git-go. Then, Karl starts an embarrasing-to-watch affair with the doppleganger Sunita. Once a character has been ruined (Sunita/Karl/Tracy .. insert name here) there isn't much turning back. Now we have to watch (if our stomach's can handle it) Stella and Jason getting all jiggy. Ugh. I can't wait for the day for him to yell in her face..'If I'd wanted a Mum, I'd have stayed at home?'...
Well, the fire will put an end to them as Karl saves Stella whilst Sunita goes to the land of wasted Corrie characters.
Maybe it's not the new producer's idea. Collinson is best mates with MC and probably arranged storylines for the next 6-12 months for stella before he left. Why is it only a 1 year, not a 2 year contract? because that's the earliest the new producer can probably get rid of her! Just a thought....(John)
This is the worst news. I nursed a little hope that Mr Blackburn would take the much needed opportunity to re- cast the dreadful Stella. I agree with others, please wardrobe, inject some colour and warm up her death mask make up. into that underwhelming wardrobe I have been a CS viewer for 40+ years and I really am struggling to keep going with it now. There was a time it would have near ruined my week had I missed an episode. Now, I couldn't care less.
Stella is bland and I agree, if her family disappeared from the Street no one would notice.
My frustration is with Gail Platt. Her face, her voice, her hair and everything about her irks me. I can't stand watching her but still do! Her eyes flit back and forth when talking to someone. She looks like a camel. Please, please, please Mr. Blackburn think of some way to write Gail out of the script.

This is awful news! Feel like screaming because I'd pinned all hope on the new producer. Lets pray that Anonymous 12.20 is right in saying that it's still a follow on from Phil Collinson and hold on to a teeny tiny bit of hope that after this she'll be gone.
Though is it my imagination that St Ella of the Backroom no longer says "Come through to the Back" like she used to insistently? Or have I been missing it? Just another little hope that TPTB might be popping in now and again and just listening to us mere mortals for guidance :D
Anonymous 12:20 makes a good point. 1 year contract isn't that big a deal.
The strong, long term characters usually mean the actors getting 18 month contracts.
Anon13.37, I agree with you 100% I can't stand Gail at all she gets on my nerves big time! I would love to see the back of her and her weasley faced son.
Anon: 21:55
In this instance I'm happy to stand corrected!
Humpty Dumpty said: "Who's next up? Kate Ford on a 5 year contract? "
Oh, the bloody horror of that thought!
Oh, that beige person still around for another year - not good! The one character still around that I find quite bizarre is Dr. Carter - he has maybe a two minute appearance once every three or four months - hope it doesn't interfere with whatever other work he does.
I really don't mind her these days, I think its mostly because of the characters she's surrounded by - Gloria, Karl and Eva, they're all some of my current favourites.
the problem is if they sacked Michelle Collins...they'd probably have to lose Sue Johnstone as well. So perhaps they think it's worth persevering with Stella for 1 more year? Or maybe they absolutely love her.
Being in Australia I watch three different era's of Corrie - on one channel it's in 2005 on UKTV we are about two weeks behind and thanks to a great english pen pal I see the latest episodes - and I am very disappointed with the latest episodes so I go back to my dvd sets and watch the earliest episodes and see real acting - Stella is coming across the screen so beige and looks like a shop manequin from an op shop popping here and there when required. Gloria I'm sorry but you are just coming over hard and boring - walks around the rovers like she owns it giving everyone a look like they have stepped in something that smells terrible where's that black taxi that drives off those cast members who don't come back arriving. Please producers writers how about sitting down with a panel of "real" viewers and ask them what should be done to improve the show -
I think someone (or several) whose posted above has hit the crux of the problem. And no, pollyanna, it's not that some people just hate the show and shouldn't bother watching it anymore. The real problem with St.Ella of the Backroom is that she's been shoved in our face and kept there constantly since her arrival. Any new character could not stand up to that sort of screen time unless they had one line an episode, mostly in passing. The writers just hammer this character over and over, not letting her settle or develop at all. If they choose to keep her as the landlady of the Rovers then it makes sense they've renewed her contract. However, let us all pray that they back away from her and let her rest and develop in the background for awhile.
