High drama tonight on our best loved street. As the opening music died away, we heard the clang of a cell door and were shown the inside of the jail where poor Tyrone, innocent to his fingertips, languishes, awaiting his appearance in court. There in the gallery are Hayley, Mary and Fiz, of course.
Fair play to Mary who is approaching the trial with an open mind. She appears to be advocating David Cameron's Big Society idea and if no one else is clear what that means, it seems at least that Mary has a handle on the notion. Mary, who claims she has 'a civil duty to be here' intends to 'log' anything significant. Fiz informs Mary that Tyrone is innocent and to demonstrate her open mind, Mary agrees that that is 'a distinct possibility.'
Julie, forever ministering to Kirsty's needs, tells her she would look respectable in a bin bag. What she wears doesn't matter as, according to Julie, Kirsty has 'the truth on her side'. Viewers must be shouting at the television by now and if not yet, surely when the prosecuting barrister warns the jury not to be 'taken in by the affable grease monkey act' there are cries of injustice in the living rooms of Britain. And even louder must the shouts be now as she calls Tyrone 'a shrewd, calculating man and a consummate performer' who, as a bully, craves power.
Eileen and Deirdre appearing as witnesses are wholly on Kirsty's side and quite understandably Fiz states of Deirdre that she would like to 'smash her stupid glasses' - the glasses of the Weatherfield One from many years ago, who, in fairness, makes a valid point that just because people, barristers, have a lot of letters after their names, it doesn't make them good people. 'Sit back,' declares Deirdre 'and let justice take its course.'
Kirsty managed to keep going with her lies, even when her mother showed up, who knows the truth and has urged her daughter to tell the truth. Later, Kirsty's mum urges her to tell the truth, even after she's lied in court and suggests that she leaves her abusive husband at last, becomes a proper mother to Kirsty and a grandmother to Ruby. Kirsty's mother does tell her daughter though that she was shocked at how well Kirsty kept up the lies and pretence and presented herself as the victim Looks like a good solution for all three of them, but Kirsty has no intention of telling the truth and abandons her mother.
On arrival home, Kirsty is furious to see Sally Webster, a child abductor in Kirsty's eyes babysitting for Ruby. Kirsty confronts Julie as to why she left Sally in charge and then witnesses Kirsty's temper as she hurls a cup at the wall. Having had time to mull over Kirsty's display of temper, Julie fears she has been wrong about her. As she says, 'my instincts are never wrong' and then ponders the lie that Kirsty told her about the last time she'd seen her mother. She fears they've all been duped. It's starting to unravel...
From courtroom to hospital and we see Karl about to be discharged and Gloria offering him a roof over his head. What a nightmare for Jason - accused of causing the fire by his dodgy electric work, then Stella's ex moving back in with her. At least Jason is vindicated. He did not start the fire by any careless electrical work; the investigation points to arson.
Dev's desperation is heartbreaking and his words to Sunita are profoundly affecting, especially as she can't hear him as she is kept alive by a machine. Karl will never again sleep easy in his bed.

Anybody else wonder, with The Rovers' torched, what "roof" Gloria was offering To pu over Karl's head?
It was mentioned that Kevin was going to move back in with Sally so that Stella, Gloria and Eva could move into no.13
I wondered who actually suggested that Kevin move back with Sally. Has Gail moved back with David and Kylie?
Gail agreed to move home after her talk with Kylie in the fire aftermath. I forget who suggested it, but it was said that Kevin had agreed to leave No 13 to live with Sally so that Stella, Eva and Gloria could stay there. But does that not seem odd? I understand that Kevin would offer, as he wants to be back with Sally, but that Sally would agree? I know deep-down Sally is good and she would want to help out in a crisis, but in that case, would she not have said to Kevin, invite them to live with you, or offer a bed to one of them herself? Offering to take in her ex after all she has said seems odd. Lots of people go throuh crises like this, but i cannot imagine they get offered a whole house. A spare room or a sofa seems more likely. Not that we need to worry, Kevin will be going to take care of his sick father soon...
Can I just say that the actor who played Tyrone's defense lawyer was on absolute top form. A brilliant performance, pity we won't see more from Ben Onwukwe after this week.
Kirsty lied and instead of another writing slip up, Julie actually caught it. And she saw the scary face. I was almost ready to cheer when Brian said she had to tell the police or the barristers what happened, but then the bubble burst when Julie said she'd ask Kirsty about it. Noooooooooo!!!!!
I wonder who is going to remember that they didn't see Karl for quite a while after his Taxi Dance?
I agree with Christopher M. The actor was very intense in the courtroom scenes. Hopefully he will get more work because of this performance.
Abbyk, I'm hoping that Tiny Fireman Paul will remember he could smell smoke on Karl when he came back to the Bistro!
Thought the episodes were actually pretty good last night. Kirsty acting her socks off and Julie left with just that tiny feeling that she has been wrong all along. But she had agreed to look after Roobah and should not have just disappeared on an errand for Brian leaving Sally in charge. And what a pig ignorant woman Gloria is. Every time she opens her bile filled mouth, I want to punch her. I cannot understand these living arrangements either. Sally lives at No 13 with Soppy, doesnt Kevin live with Jack in a flat somewhere? If they were moving into Kevin's flat there wouldnt be room for the Price family let alone free loader fire starter Karl.
I thought Kevin was living in the house next to Devs shop ?
The Websters moved from No 13 to No 4 in 2008 - they house-swapped with the Peacocks. Sally and Sophie still live at No 4. Kevin bought No 13 from Steve McDonald in 2012 and supposedly lives there with baby Jack - although I don't think we've seen inside the house since Ryan nearly burned it down and Kevin did all those noisy renovations which ruined fireman Paul's sleep...
Kevin bought number 13 from Steve who bought it from Lloyd for Tracy before the botched wedding. I wondered if Sally agreed to it too, but i suppose they needed to get Kevin out of the house and soon, to be off doing something else. Needs must. I thought the episodes were very good, too!
I'd love to know what Dev finds so amusing about Sunita's coma that he smiles so often. Also, whatever his emotional state he always seems a bit pained, as a bad case of piles is troubling him.
Is there another character in the Street as dull or unlikeable as Paul?
Kevin bought the house (#13) from Steve MacDonald, who sold it as a means to remove Tracy. If Gail's returned to her house(or is it officially David's yet?) then Kevin could stay in Rosie's room. He's done it before, although Sally's uncomfortable with him (and especially Jack) living there. Sally is ambivalent about her relationship with Kevin, much like Stella is with Karl. Considering that Michael Le Vell's trial is not for some months, the writer's will have to invent some reason for Kevin not to be seen in either house.
I don't understand why there has been no mention of Kirsty's record on the police force and particularly why she was forced to resign. With her inability to control her temper and her tendency to abuse her position of authority, there must have been co-workers who saw her overstep the mark at times. Also, they must have known about her father's history, since he was also a cop. Surely Tyrone would have told his barrister about this.
What does Jason see in Stella? Certainly not good looks. He should give her the deep 6 and move on IMO.
Anyway, didn't Dr. Carter look at Karl strangely when he came out of the back room at the Bistro the night of the fire? Maybe he's the one that Karl tries to knock off.
I thought the highlight of last night's episodes was seeing James Quinn playing a policeman again. He was brilliant as the copper in Early Doors, in the back room smoking a spliff with the landlord. What a shame the Rovers no longer has a backroom, or any rooms for that matter, and Stella has probably done enough smoking inhaling for now.
Please oh please, Corrie Writers, let him laugh that huge hilarious again. Or at least say "Crime doesn't solve itself".
Didnt Kirsty book in for Anger Management Course through Dr Carter and then didnt turn up? Nothing was mentioned in the dock yesterday. Dreary played a blinder though, we need to see more of her. Why is Gloria so obsessed with getting Karl back together with St Ella, she knows he cheated and what a waste of space he is, its becoming a bit creepy like she fancies the loser herself???
Loon the Baloon, I have wondered this myself from her first appearance. Why would any mother want her daughter back with a man who cheated, lied, stole from her, was a compulsive gambler, and is terminally lazy? It's not like they have young children together. He's not even Eva's father. As a mother myself, I wouldn't want my daughters anywhere near a loser like Karl!
Gloria's obsession with having Karl back in the family is definitely creepy.
Why would Kevin leave his own house, take Jack and all his things to move into Rosie's room at Sally's when Stella and Gloria could do that? Guess they needed more space to shoehorn creepy Karl into the house as well, just to piss off Jason.
My guess is that Gloria has a soft spot for Karl because she sees him as a kindred spirit...
Mary Prankster - you make a very good point about Kirstie's past as a police woman, thank you for mentioning it, I had forgotten about it. However - lets just pretend that Kirstie did not get caught out in any police investigation - why oh why are we subjected to a trial where all -ALL - the evidence is circumstancial? (I can't spell, sorry). As the saying goes, its his word against her's... As Tyrone's solicitor pointed out, no-one saw anything in real-time, all witnesses saw the after-effect of the situation and assume Tyrone was guilty... This really makes no sense to me. Other than it being a drama and they have licence to write what makes good TV rather than reality. But I want it to make sense as I love the show. I imagine solicitors and police up and down the country are saying "That would never happen"
