Corrie fans vote for Karen McDonald return

A fortnight ago, I posted a poll here on the Coronation Street Blog asking you to vote for who'd you like to return to the cobbles.

550 Corrie fans voted and an astounding 173 voted for Karen McDonald (last seen in 2004) to make a comeback. No doubt with ex Steve and rival Tracy still there it would make interesting viewing!

In second place was Curly Watts (last seen in 2003)  with 97 votes.

Hilda Ogden (last seen in 1987) came third with 59 votes.

Tied in fourth place were Bet Lynch (last seen in 2003) and Mavis Wilton (last seen in 1997) with 47 votes.

And finishing the top five off was Becky McDonald (despite only leaving early this year!) with 26 votes. Becky was voted for under the 'other' option in the poll.

Other characters you wished to return were Linda Cheveski, Sian Powers, Billy Walker, Danny Baldwin, Sarah Platt, Toyah Battersby, Cilla Battersby-Brown, Rosie Webster, Spider Nugent, Graeme Proctor, Eddie Windass, Liz McDonald, Raquel Watts, Les Battersby-Brown, Candice Stowe, Maya Sharma, Dawn Prescott, Debbie Webster, Natasha Blakeman, Suzie Birchall, Jamie Baldwin, Frankie Baldwin, Shelley Unwin and Craig Harris.

Two people wished for Bill Ward to make a return as Charlie Stubbs' twin brother while others wished Richard Hillman, Elsie Tanner, Mike Baldwin and Derek Wilton would make a return from the dead.

Happy with the results? Or shocked?

Bring her back as Tina's mum - she certainly has the likeness.

Tina's mum is Anna McIntyre, she has already briefly appeared in 2008. She should come back actually, it's odd that she's not been in contact with her daughter for 4 years given everything that has happened.

I don't want to see her back as she was a pain to watch--always explosive and immature.

I agree, she was explosive and immature. But people change a lot in the best part of a decade. She could be completely reinvented.

I would love to see Karen return.

Come on Suranne just for a couple of episodes!!!!!! Give us a treat

Don't you think the reason people want Karen to return is because she was strong and consistent in her behaviour unlike characters nowadays where all women on the street are described as 'fiesty' and then actually turn out to be wet lettuces who have the odd unrealistic cat fight?- Micky

Karen would be such a great match to set Tracey back in her corner so I can see why that would be fun.
In fact, I would love to see whole lot of the old characters return, Toyah would be a good mix and Les Battersby wouldn't be far behind, just in case he could get in on some scheme or other. I was hoping Beth would be another Janice but she has been 'prettied' up so much since they have her on regular that she's just annoying. What a shame...
But I have to say I am getting so tired of the same ol', same ol' story lines of 'Let's see who's can run from bed to bed fastest'. They need some real stories to give the characters some depth, not just hormones in overdrive.
Love reading your blogs! Thank you for sharing your insight! :)

Suranne has definitely done well for herself; I've seen her in a number of excellent programs. Much as I love her, I'm tired of steve's love life so...
Actually, that's not true, I'm just tired of Tracy. Maybe if Karen made a grand appearance back for once episode in some giant Land Rover and accidentally ran over Tracy? No?

Yes I've said this before - it would be great to see Karen come back to Corrie. She could have done well for herself and come back as a partner in the Underwear Factory. What would Tracy say about that !
