Can you remember Debbie Webster?

For those of us old enough to remember Debbie Webster it was a bit of a treat to hear her mentioned on Coronation Street last week, so I thought a blog post was in order. Debbie is Kev's younger, tearaway sister.  Debbie turned up in 1984 when Bill Webster moved to Weatherfield with his two kids, Kevin and Debbie. Played by actress Sue Devaney, Debbie was energetic, feisty and  independent. She left when she moved back to Southampton with Bill.  Let's have her back, eh?

Sue Devaney is a brilliant comic actress (she was also in Corrie-cousin comedy "dinnerladies")

Would love to see her return.

I didn't know she'd ever been in Corrie! Yeah let's have her back. She was good in dinnerladies but to me she'll always be "our Rita" in Jonny Briggs. She's done some presenting as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db6WHtNV5-I

Thanks for posting the pic of "Debbie", I recognized her right away.
I must admit, when Kevin called Debbie, it rang a teeny bell 'somewhere' but not until I saw the pic did I remember her, and 'feisty' she was, I do remember.
It would be really good to bring her back for a visit.

Is it true that when a long-gone character ( such as Debbie) is mentioned by name, the character will be revived in the near future?

It's great that they remember to mention Debbie once in a while. She was fun and feisty, and it would be good to have her back on Corrie. But there's another Webster who is never mentioned - and may have been ret-conned out of existence - Kevin & Debbie's half-brother Carl. He would be in his mid twenties now, and was Bill's son with Elaine Prior. Where is he, and what has he been up to all these years? Why is he never mentioned? Wouldn't it be interesting if he turned up in Weatherfield and surprised his long-lost family?

Mentioned the first time for ages last week, as ever ion Corrie family members just disappear.

Bring her back from the slog of working in a factory with Tony, Bren and Twink !!

Yeah, let's have her back! She could ask for "12 rounds of white" in Roy's. ;)

I remember her the first time she was in it and in fact I've got her very first episode on DVD - the one where Bill and his two kids move into Elsie Tanner's old house.

I also remember her in kids TV show Johnny Briggs. She has that unmistakeable down to earth Lancashire quality about her.

However, I seem to recall that her stay in Corrie was only short lived after Pete Armitage who played her dad, Bill, infuriated producers by quitting about six months into his contract.

I though it a bit odd that they should choose to mention her again now seeing as her name's not so much as been uttered by any of the Webster clan in 20 years.

I'm not sure I'd want to see her back in the show either. Corrie's moved on and it's rarely the same when characters return although I agree she was a very welcome addition to the cast in her day.

She was as lively as Kevin is dull
