Fab British actress June Whitfield is to join Coronation Street.The official Corrie site report that June's been signed up to play Blanche Hunt's friend, May, and she'll tell Deirdre how her mother has died. News of Blanche's death will reach the cobbles in a couple of months. Undertaker Archie Shuttleworth will return for Blanche's funeral too.

She's going to be a great addition. Hope she sticks around and becomes friends with Emily and Betty.

She has a full time role on Last of the Summer Wine so I expect her Corrie visit will be a fleeting one.
Oh no, I'm sadly dreading the news of Blanche's death on the cobbles. I feel as though we're in a bit of limbo now, and after her funeral it's all just so final. Alas, I'm sure these scenes will be great.
