Coronation Street set to reopen to the public?

A couple of years ago there was a rumour that the Coronation Street set might re-open to tours. It never materialised but I have read an interesting article just now in a Manchester business site that suggests the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry is in talks with ITV. If ITV moves its studios to the new BBC Media City site in Salford, maybe the MOSI will take over the outdoor set and open it as part of their museum which backs onto the studio site. Again, there's nothing definite but the MOSI is interested at least. I think it would be a cracking idea to incorportate the popular set as part of the museum since Coronation Street has become part of the fabric of Manchester for millions of fans. Sounds like it's worth crossing all your bits for this one. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I think it could work.

The problem is that the whole GTV site is worth millions, and I'm not sure that MOSI could afford to buy the plot, given that it's right in the middle of it.

Wishful thinking methinks.

Possibly, yes, but since the outside set is flush up against MOSI, they might be able to squeak that bit out of the site.
