Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 22nd June
I have got my head around Monday's episode sometimes being the second half of Friday's, which would originally have been on on a Wednesday (by ignoring it) but an ep filmed in mid-March, which was supposed to air in early May being shown on TV in late June is percolating my little brain. Nonetheless, it's VE Day and Alex is dressed as? erm? a costermonger? serving liver casserole and dripping sarnies in the cafe. Um, yum? Carla is decorating the pub with patriotic plastic flags, but finds time to thank Abby (with a bottle of booze) for helping getting rid of the druggies-turned-blackmailers. It'd be lovely if those two became friends.
Talking of the olden days, David, wearing a nineties style tie-dye t-shirt talks about Shona coming back to live on the street. Shona has a new support worker, Aaron, who seems a bit more on it than the last carer who managed to lose her. Shona makes an immediate faux pas by putting a coin in Abby's keep cup, thinking she's homeless, David makes another one by storming into the flat and insisting on making tea for his wife and there's another from Shona as she she makes the moves on the care worker. To be honest, David is more scrappy but Aaron is better looking, with a sexy soft accent.
It's the morning after the lady of the the night before and Daniel decides to ring blonde Katie Harrison (Naughty Nicki), before going to buy some icky looking strong lager. Daniel turns up at the hotel after quaffing said lager and knocks on Nicki's door. Does she live at the hotel? Are the management OK with her plying her wares out of it?
Also in bad romance news: in the flat of many people, which I think used to house Maria and Liam (and Ozzy), Seb says he will move out and leave Emma and Alina (who's been in the Edwardian blouse dressing up box) to become friends. Didn't Emma chuck him out ages ago? Anyway, Seb buys Emma some flowers to apologise but then tells Alina that he still really likes her.
Meanwhile, Steve and even Tracy want to take Oliver to the city farm and promise to take anti-bacterial gel and hand wipes with them. Steve's obviously been stockpiling them since February. Leanne puts up resistance, but then changes her mind and says she will accompany the Barlow-McDonalds to the farm. There's a lot of stuff about not buying Oliver an ice-cream, as he's not allowed them, so I can only assume a 99 or maybe even a Nobbly-Bobbly is going to feature in Liz's downfall/exit storyline.

I do smile when I see the comments about the airing of episodes. Welcome to our world! Not only do we see the episodes a couple of weeks late, but our Mother's Day is in May and your 'bank holidays' which are our 'long weekends' have practically no correlation whatsoever! But I love watching the episodes after I've already read the summaries, because I'm on the lookout for all the best bits. You all do a wonderful job.
The fact it's VE day makes you realise just how far behind Corrie is lol.
Seb and Alina are two of the dullest and most pointless characters ever. Why are they still on the show? Who actually gives a damn about them? Why don't Seb cut his hair? I sense of boring love triangle on the way and I'm really not here for it.
Loved the small Abi and Carla scene, really hope this is the beginning of a friendship with these two - both strong, feisty women. Would be nice to have some girl power on the cobbles!
Hmm, I noticed Scott's knuckles were a little bloodied and bruised so I'm guessing he's the one behind the attack on those two scallies. Peter was suspiciously absent from tonight's episode though.
Shona's storyline: Zzzzzz....
How does Daniel earn a living? How has he spare money to pay for an escort? I know I should suspend belief, but I just wish there was a bit of reality about the character’s lives.
Please explain why Shona's storyline if Zzzzzz?
Great review, Rachel.
At least Seb’s hair will be OK for coming out of lock down, but my reaction to him and Alina popping out of nowhere was...why?! Let’s fervently hope the new filming will be a reason to eliminate some of these pointless characterS. As for income, my disbelief has long been suspended on this one! No one earns any money.
So whilst the Archers has incorporated the lockdown into the storyline - easier to do for a radio soap of course - Corrie is happening in a completly alternative 2020 now?
Thank you, Popcorn and Canadian Watcher!
These are still episodes that were recorded pre lockdown. Hence no mention of it. You will see the lockdown episodes soon as the Corrie cast have just started filming again
Now I know I’m not the only one who thinks that the actress that plays Nicki looks like Lucy Jo Hudson.
One good thing about these spaced out episodes is you forget characters like Alina and Seb exist - until they show up again. Would anyone miss them if they left? I highly doubt it. Both bland characters who bring nothing whatsoever to the show. The cast needs some serious slimming down to separate the wheat from the chaff. Thank God for likes of David, Evelyn and Roy Cropper, that’s all I’m saying.
I loved Rita's V.E. day speech. I just hope it's not an eternity until we see her again, especially with the limited filming of the over 70's due to lockdown
Last night's ep.should have been pulled.It was completely unnecessary. Alina/Seb/Emma; No-one cares.
David and Shona; We all knew she would jump the carer just as David came back for his phone.
Evelyn tries to flog out of date stock again...What a waste of the best actor/character on the show.
Daniel's still FUBAR.Gosh who knew?
Carla's in another scrape and isn't she meant to not drink?
Steve and Lianne play happy families.
Last night's episode should have been scrapped.
Flurry face - agree. All totally pointless and leading us nowhere.
You don’t have to watch you know. Maybe you could find another programme that satisfies your need for something new every 2 minutes.
Just like I watch terrible football by my favourite team, so I watch terrible episodes of my favourite "continuing drama"...doesn't swerve my loyalty, but does force occasional words of criticism
