This pub is SHUT!

I suppose it was inevitable really but today, ITV called time on our favourite soap. The ongoing pandemic means that all filming of Corrie has now ended. ITV assures us that they have enough stockpiled episodes to last until early summer but for now, here's where the story ends.

It isn't the first time that Corrie has completely disappeared from our screens. Some of us are extremely old and recall the disastrous summer of 1979 when ITV went on strike and the telly box went blank until autumn. It was particularly grim at one point when the BBC also came out on strike, save for broadcasts of less-than-exciting cricket matches.

By the time we wandered back into Weatherfield, most people had forgotten what was going on anyway. To deal with this, ITV filmed a special where Len Fairclough and Bet Lynch wandered down the cobbles, having a chat and bringing its up to date. How we lapped up the return of Corrie that evening!

Exactly where the narrative has reached is anyone's guess but no doubt we will be left with a few cliffhangers. What ITV does next remains to be seen but there must be a good chance that Classic Corrie will make the transition from ITV3 to the main channel. Maybe ITV will handpick some of the best loved and most memorable episodes to help celebrate the 60th anniversary.

How would you like to see ITV deal with the temporary demise of our favourite continuing drama?

For now though, we wish everyone involved in the show much love. Stay safe.

I'd love to see Classic migrate to ITV proper but I can't see the producers doing it in case it trashed the current offering in the ratings.

It would be very interesting to see which storylines does not make the cut, such as Liz McDonalds were promised an explosive exit, but might have to scrap it without the build up and suspend filming...

I can’t see them transferring the episodes of Classic Corrie currently running on ITV3. If they did show handpicked classic eps I suspect most would be from the last 15-20 years. Although I personally would much prefer they showed ones from the 70s,80s and 90s.
