Corrie weekly update – Dirty Dancing in the Dahlias

Corrie weekly updates from 1995
All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield
None of the waffle

The week in Weatherfield started with a lot of laughter and fun when Damon Alexis-Rochefort’s double Monday night Corrie had us in stitches. Tracy and Mary’s double act in the flower shop with them both acting out the lift scene from Dirty Dancing had me bent double. “If I can do it with mother, I can do it with you!” screams Mary as Tracy runs towards her down the length of the shop. Wonderful stuff indeed.

Tracy demands Steve buys her a new engagement ring now she’s found out that the one she’s wearing once belonged to Karen McDonald. Abi goes with Steve to buy the ring, and there’s a wonderful friendship building up between these two, with more fire and danger to it than there could ever be with Tracy. Abi is almost like the Becky we knew of old, a bit rough around the edges but with a heart of gold.  And when Abi almost goes off the rails this week and back to her drugs habit, it’s Steve who saves her with a chat on the bench and a heart to heart in the garden. In return, Abi kisses him, taking them both by surprise.

Over at the Rovers, change is in the air. Henry Newton and Gemma are pipped at the post in buying the pub by Jenny and Johnny Connor. Jenny can’t believe Johnny’s bought “the dump” (as she calls it) but her disdain for the pub turns to smiles and she’s soon pulling pints like a pro. She offers Gemma a job as a barmaid. It’s an offer that Gemma chucks back in Jenny’s face as she’s still hurt that Jenny bought the Rovers and not her and Henry. However, Rita advises Gemma to think on and accept the job. Johnny has a quiet word with Liz to ask if she will leave both the pub and his life quietly but Liz puts him straight. “I’m going nowhere, sunshine.”

Hospital Klaxon No. 1 : Rana’s dad is taken ill and rushed into hospital. Rana wants to visit her dad but her mum won’t allow it, she’s still against her daughter for falling in love with Kate. Cue lots of tears and that.

Hospital Klaxon No 2: Beaten up Josh goes blind in his hospital bed as he’s visited by Billy at his bedside.

Over at the factory, Aidan Connor makes a return from the dead in a DVD interview he’d done before he died. Alya watches the interview and Aidan’s words about donating his kidney to Carla hit hard. She wonders if she’s being selfish hanging onto the factory after all.

Speaking of Carla, Peter comes on to her this week in Roy’s Rolls. Oh, Peter, you do pick your moment. He tells her there’s still a spark between them, a spark that can never go out. It’s a spark that Carla says she doesn’t feel or want and leaves him sitting in the café on his own.

And finally this week, in a storyline I’ve lost track of because it’s of no interest to me apart from giving Sally and Tim more airtime, which is always great. Dodgy Duncan is arrested and Imran acts as his lawyer.

And that’s just about that for this week.
