There's going to be a cervical cancer storyline in Coronation Street. If you want to know who the storyline will affect, it's here on The Sun website.
It's not the first time that Corrie have covered cervical cancer. Alma Baldwin died of the disease back in 2001 and many of us will remember that storyline, of course.
In an interview back then, Amanda Barrie told the Daily Mail that she was critical of the way the storyline had been handled on the show. She said: “Cancer touches all our lives, there can’t be anyone who hasn’t been affected. If you are going to take an issue like this and use it for entertainment, you have to be just so very, very careful. As Alma’s illness and deterioration proceeded with such amazing speed, I really did feel I was being asked to take part in a cheap ratings ploy. I didn’t like it one bit.”
Amanda Barrie also revealed how she had arguments with Corrie bosses nearly every day about the way the storyline was handling her character's illness. And she accused the script of being medically inaccurate.
Let's hope Corrie don't make the same mistake this time.
I wonder if this means that the character is going to be killed off this time - or if the story will show that cervical cancer can be treated successfully?
