I want to shake her by the shoulders (a bit harder than is necessary, yes, I admit) and give her a good shouting-at. Which is what we're supposed to be thinking, of course. This storyline is running wonderfully and is one I'm enjoying a lot.
Evil Phelan and villain Vinny have stepped up their game to ensure they keep hold of Jason's cash. It looks like Todd's going to get involved now his mum has been kidnapped by Vinny - see the previews for tonight's episodes.
Meanwhile, we all know that Phelan will break Eileen's heart.
But the big question today is.... does anyone feel sorry for Eileen?

Big fat NAY from me! No sympathy for her whatsoever, she is a nasty bit or work, always has been and always will be.
Cannot stand her and the weird faces she pulls that she passes off as acting.
I say Nay for the same reason as Derelict. But let's not forget that while she is the one being taken for a ride, Jason is the one who will lose 85K pounds if Phelan and Vinnie have their way.
Nay from me, I'm afraid, and it saddens me to say it, as I used to be a big Eileen fan in the early days when she was savvy, sarcastic and funny. Now she's just bitter and judgemental.
It's a desperately sad situation on Corrie. There are very few characters who merit any sympathy/empathy. Roy, Steph & Andy, Tim & maybe Sally, and I can't think of anyone else. It's not even a case of enjoying their come-uppance, 'don't care' is more what I feel. The filming is done at such a pace that it seems to be left very much to the actors to do what they can. And some can, some can't. I'm not enjoying this storyline as Phelan is so utterly charmless that I can't believe any woman would want sex with him. That's the way he's played and nothing to do with the actor's own personal attributes! So, to answer the question about Eileen, not much bothered.
NAY - she is judgemental and turns on old friends and family without a second thought. As already stated, that is the character, and they are certainly about in life...however she has learned nothing for a woman of her age. Doesn't take responsibility for her own misjudgements. Some good points, Humpty, re the pace of the filming, etc. And yes, Derelict Cucumberpatch, the faces she pulls as a substitute for acting, yuk!
No. She's an idiot. People who don't listen to their loved ones deserve all they get.
Nay, my only regret is that it's Jason's money she'll be throwing down the drain. She won't listen to reason and isn't the least bit curious about why at least two people who knew Phelan from before he turned up ( Anna and her son) have avoided him. These people were in business with him and lost their construction business and home, how us Eileen not wondering how that happened?Did she even notice? Her own son ended up with that business, so how could she not.
Todd- whom she should at least acknowledge would know a con artist when he sees one- has warned her not to invest, but she still is falling for it. Why? No one is telling her not to date him and surely a successful builder should have more access to funds than just hers unless his previous ventures were failures so why invest before the project is built? Why isn't she asking anyone already in any type of business ( Audrey,Steve, Liz, Nick, Roy, Dev, the Connors)what they think or to ask around about Phelan on her behalf?
Because, Maricha, that would make too much sense, Clearly Corrie these days goes for portraying people as having no memory of the past and not an ounce of common sense in the present.
That's terribly sad Abercrombie because what I loved about Corrie when I first started watching was how everyone knew everyone. Now it feels so impersonal as if these people lived miles apart and it makes for stories like this one where neighbors are oblivious to each other and only get involved to gossip after disaster has struck.

Maricha's got an excellent point about Eileen not taking people's advice - people she's known for ages, over a man she's know for all of 5 minutes. She SHOULD be wondering why Anna and Gary avoid him like the plague, and why Owen lost his business.
I hope that Eileen gets a big fat letdown, but I hope Jason's money doesn't get squandered because of her stupidity.
As a longtime Corrie fan (I started watching in the late 1960s, when it started to air on Canada), I have seen most of the characters swinging on the pendulum from sweet to evil, from down-to-earth to snobby, from the one you love to hate to sympathetic character. It's all part of the soap opera dynamic.
David Platt used to be a real rotter and now he is a devoted dad, grieving husband, successful and talented business owner, etc. Sally was a sympathetic character; now she's the snob. These roles have bounced around through the decades. When I started watching, Elsie Tanner was quite pleasant - it's only through reading of Corrie history on the Internet that I discovered that she was not always so. Very few characters have remained unchanged - Emily Bishop, for instance, although I remain open to changing my opinion if anyone has info to the contrary.
It used to bother me that personalities were so fluid. Now I chalk it up to soap opera protocol - keep the audience engaged by shaking things up.
No, I have grown to really dislike her character over the past couple of years or so, she used to have some humour, now she's just nasty and deserves everything she gets.
I agree, it's not realistic that she would take the word of someone she's known for five minutes over that of her family and neighbours. I just hate how no one can ever come into any money without being swindled out of it (i.e. Kevin's scratch card winnings being handed over to crooks by Sophie).
No, she's stupid! I used like her funny side. She doesn't have that anymore.
I am amazed how characters are 'labeled'. They continually end-up in the same situation/storyline over and over. Eileen always ends up being 'labeled' a fool.
I feel a bit sorry for her, especially as she is being judged on his actions that she knows nothing about. I would disagree with the idea that people will believe friends and family over someone they just met, I've got first, second and third hand accounts for how that is simply not true.
Nope. Eileen used to be one of my favorite characters but they have turned her into a nasty witch. She used to have great one-liners and she's had her share of decent blokes. Maybe Paul will come back after Phelan has chewed her up and spit her out? Not a big fan of what they've done to Sally either, she's heading down the same road.
Nope. Never have, never will. Greedy mare doesn't know when she has it good and always does whatever she can to end up with crap men who treat her badly... or she treats them badly. Eileen's really better suited to friendships and keeping to herself!
She has been mean & nasty lately and will think of nothing else of pushing Pat's plans to all her friends and neighbours. Can't wait to see her shame when it all comes to light.

Nope, don't feel sorry for her even a smidge. She's turned into a nasty piece of work and I can't wait to see her face when she realises. Just hope Jason doesn't lose all of his money!
This is very typical for Corrie, long time friends and neighbours turning their backs on one another in favour of some short-term character. The abuse storyline with Tyrone and Kirstie is a good example. Kirstie had just moved onto the street and Ty has been living there for a decade. It's annoying.
