Next week on Coronation Street, we'll meet Alex's dad for the first time - and he's going to be played by Jim Cartwright.
Yup, that Jim Cartwright.
The Jim Cartwright who wrote The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Two and Road (and he also wrote one episode of Corrie in January 2011).
Jim Cartwright is a multi award winning, international playwright, screenwriter and director. His plays have been in constant publication since 1986. He has received an Honorary Doctrate from Bolton University, has been a visiting professor at The University of Salford and his old school Harper Green have named a building in his honour.
And now he's turning up in our favourite soap as Alex's dad, Nigel. You'll see from the picture above that Cathy's not best pleased to see him!

For a second there I thought you were talking about Jim Carter (Mr.Carson in Downton Abbey)...now that would have been a coup!
Ugh.....must mean more prominence for a character I can't warm to :(
Didn't he write a few episodes? He was an amazing coup to get on the writing team.
