After the last time Billy and Todd kissed in Eileen's kitchen, 67 people complained to Ofcom. Ofcom's ruling is that "Our rules do not discriminate between scenes involving opposite sex and same sex couples."
Also after that kiss, as Editor of the Coronation Street Blog, I received a rather nasty rash of homophobic emails too. Fans contacted me via corrie.net, wrongly assuming that a fan site with the words 'FAN SITE' on it was the official ITV Corrie site, and they wanted to complain about living in the year 2016.
Good on Daniel, I say. And good on Corrie too.

I love the sarcastic, disdainful tone this was written in. Good on Daniel, good on Ofcom and good on you. It's 2016 FFS! It was a bit of kissing, not porn.
Fgs it's 2016 it's life if you don't like it watch something else where not in the 60s now would you complain if Albert tapplock and ena sharples were having a bang back then I don't think so because back then you couldn't do that sex on TV 😲 just get a life or buy a radio ffs
Good for all those standing up to those whiny complaints. Are they even Corrie watchers? This show has featured murders, thefts, coerced sex and infidelity but a kiss between two consenting adults is shocking !?!

And then there is me! I haven't seen this episode yet but I know exactly what I will do. I will watch with one eye barely open and this eye will keep closing and opening until the scene is over and then I will give a sigh of relief. Why you may ask. Well I have never had a problem with gay men ever but I don't want to watch them making out and that goes for heterosexual couples as well. A quick kiss, a hug is fine but when it get hotter I can't stand it..........lol. Probably because I just feel that certain behaviours should be and should remain private. (It's the nuns - it's all their fault). But one thing I know for sure I am not going to run to my keyboard and write nasty emails to anyone. As a society we have got to learn to accept change because if we don't, and that goes for every aspect of society, we will end up destroying each other and if a person pays attention to what is going on in the world right this minute we are not far from doing that. So with one eye open, or closed, I say go for it.
Hmmm so let me see....itès ok to show murder, domestic abuse, drugs, unfaithfulness, hetrosexuals kissing....but oh geez dont let those gay people on the set...especially men....notice how there wasnt this kind of outcry over Sophie and Maddie el....strange isnt isnt it
New rule: If you really honestly can't deal with gay people kissing on tv, DON'T WATCH!
Honestly I think they should show a gay kiss for every complaint they receive!
When Jason was getting it on with Stella, the old slapper, I could have tossed, but I don't remember anybody getting so upset about it. It's 2016 FGS...get used to it.
I love Daniel. I love Billy. I am a Christian and a confused by how Corrie are taking or handling this story. I think they are also. Much of it is written to make a point other than create a storyline. It seems all over the place. I don't think they even know where they are taking it. I don't like to be lectured to when I'm having my tea and relaxing after work but do realise the value of reaching out a wider audience on important issues.
I don't like bigotry and believe in acceptance, that's why I say with honesty that the scene with Todd and Billy didn't bother me that it was two men, like it didn't bother me with Sian and Sophie etc. What does bother me that Corrie has become all about sex, affairs, rape, murders and nothing in between and when your watching any couple, whoever they may be, writhing around and lusting after each other it's not family viewing at 7.30.
I have to say, I don't feel comfortable seeing this kind of thing, especially when they zoom in on it. But it's the same whoever the snoggers are.
Ratings grabber. Billy leading Todd upstairs would have been enough. OTT IMO too.
I agree with Beth. Corrie has changed, not for the better. I have a hard time watching a couple (gay or straight) lusting after each other in bed because I know that it is staged, it doesn't feel natural, and you know there are about 10 other people, cameramen, director, assistants, etc. standing just off camera. So where is the sexiness in that? This was definitely written to prod the viewers. Is Corrie really doing that badly in the ratings that they are scrambling for publicity? Like a wise man once said "there is no such thing as bad publicity".
I just realized thinking back about other couples on Corrie that weren't shown as explicitly as Todd & Billy: Carla & Robert, Leanne & Steve, Maria & Aidan, Johnny & Jenny. I'm sure if it was verified in past episodes one would find more instances of it not being shown rather than being shown, which does lend more weight to the argument that this particular coupling was meant to create discourse & publicity.
@Anonymous 14:37, Todd and Billy have been growing closer for months the only reason their kiss would create discourse and publicity is because we aren't as tolerant of others as we should be.
Leanne and Steve had a one night stand and Jenny and Johnny are at the very beginning of their relationship but if they became full-fledged couples, we'd see them kiss. Which men hasn't Tracy kissed or bedded and I don't recall there being an uproar over that.
