Karma and Tracy Barlow

One of the more enjoyable moments for me last night was watching Tracy's reaction to hearing about the fire. She looked curious, almost satisfied but that quickly turned to horror when she realised her daughter was trapped in the fire. Tracy Barlow might be one of the worst mothers on Coronation Street, but her one redeeming characteristic is that she does love her daughter and parents even if she's got a funny way of showing it at times.

I'm sure Tracy realises that she carelessly left a burning candle on a table and it could have been that which started the fire. She definitely knows she nearly took it upon herself to kill Carla. If the toilet hadn't flushed, would she have gone through with it? Perhaps not. But isn't Karma a... well, you know the expression.

As for Amy, this is the second time Tracy feared losing her child in a fire, you may recall. The first time was when Karen McDonald burned the car that was a bone of contention between she and Tracy. Karen took the car that had baby Amy strapped in the back though she didn't realise it at the time. When the car was later found burning, Tracy had pushed Karen too far and she was sure Karen had killed her daughter. She hadn't of course. She left Amy with Roy and Hayley but Tracy didn't know that. Now Tracy knows Amy really is in that burning building.

Will nearly losing her daughter after another obsessive vendetta change Tracy?

Time will tell. I don't want Tracy to turn into a saint, where would be the fun in that? It would be nice if she wasn't quite the panto villain she is now, though.

Well done to Elle Mulvaney on her performance last night and kudos to the writers that had Amy written as a smart, scared little kid blocking the smoke from the door and keeping down low, hoping someone would come to get her.

This might be the turning point for Tracy - finally realizing that the one thing she loves above herself, her daughter, might die in the fire. Ken will probably put two and two together and confront Tracy about the fire.
How is it that the entire Nazir clan showed up at the same time? The writers need a storyline for this family? They look dazed and confused - with nothing much to do.

I wonder if Amy will remember hearing the door to the flat open and that's what woke her up. Once awake, she had to go to the loo. Tracy made an ambiguous remark to Ken about 'no-one who didn't deserve it' ie punishment. Maybe a throw-away remark on her part but I agree that Ken will guess what happened. And where are the keys that she stole from Michelle's handbag? Eventually, people will realise they're missing and that Sean let Tracy into the back room. Tracy may bluff her way through this but the Karma comes when her mother dies - if one believes in that sort of celestial reckoning. That will be tricky for the writers; to show that it's Tracy's guilty conscience that makes her think like that rather than Tracy deserves to be bereaved. I hope at long last her father really takes her to task over her selfishness.

I think ken will def be suspicious and I also think Tracy will be very quick to ensure that the blame is firmly on Carla once a report reveals that a candle caused the fire (ie a human error rather than say an electrical fault)

The Nazirs were returning from a family dinner at an auntie's house (in a cab, even though Sharif has a car and doesn't drink), the one that Kal decided to skip.

At the risk of sounding cynical,I doubt we'll see Tracy suffer a guilty conscience over the fire.Sure she'll be upset about Amy for about a day or two before reverting back to her old self but she'll be more upset that she didn't succeed in killing Carla.
Since apparently Kal dies after rescuing Tracy and Amy,if Ken becomes suspiscious about Tracy starting the fire but keeps quiet to protect her, then perhaps he should go too?

Tracey is almost 40 years old and has been this almost completely one-dimensional nasty character for most of her adult life. A change of character at this point would really need a lot of selling for the audience to buy it and empathise with her in any way.

I read a spoiler which said that Tracy will begin to change for the better thanks to her ex-husband, who knows her bad side but also understands her vulnerability. I disagree that viewers will not accept her reformation. In fact, it seems like we are always ready to like her better (for example, when she was with Rob), but then the writers jerk the chain back and make her heartless and selfish again. I think it will be the void left by Dierdre that forces the writers (or producer or whoever) to evolve Tracy out of pure villainy into a more central role - which could be a good thing.

The thing is, every time we start to feel a bit of sympathy for Tracey, her old nasty side re-emerges again. I think viewers have become very cautious about believing Tracey has, or can, change. That's not to say that it is impossible, just that we will take a lot of convincing.

I can't really see a redemption for Tracy. I said it before, seeing her with a weapon in hand ready to KILL Carla just kind of cinches it for me. I mean, I know a lot of people who get ticked off or really angry with someone and never have they plotted to kill anyone. Ever. That enters into a whole new realm of psychotic sociopathic behaviour, especially having one victim six feet under already. Enough is enough. They have tuned her into a potential repeat killer. That's just crazy. How can they live with that on the street?

if leeanne hadn't stopped on the ladder to answer kals proposal he would have been down the ladder to safety and when kal went to the relative safety of the balcony he left leeanne and the child in the burning flat while he chatted with everyone outside, ridiculous the whole thing looked like a complete farce.

Q. "Will nearly losing her daughter after another obsessive vendetta change Tracy?"

A. In my opinion, yes. This selfish, narcissistic, hateful b*tch will become angrier and more vengeful than ever, and my guess is that she won't stop until all those who she feels have personally wronged her are either dead or gone from the street.

Or else she's dead or gone. I can only hope.

Let's be honest: Tracy always, always blames others for all her troubles. Nothing is ever her fault.

I suspect the passing of her Mum will finally throw Tracy for a Karmic loop. I can only hope that such a profound and permanent loss will initiate a redemptive arch.
