Coronation Street writer Damon Rochefort has asked for the support of Coronation Street Blog readers as he prepares for one of the biggest adventures of his life. Not satisfied with having us on the edge of our seats five times a week, Damon is putting himself on the edge of a very steep mountain, Kilimanjaro to be exact, for a cancer charity.
He says: 'We are doing this for an excellent cause, the Velindre Cancer Centre, which offers support and equipment for cancer patients and much needed research into treatment and cures. Coronation Street fans are a charitable lot so any support they can give via the Coronation Street Blog will be really appreciated'.

Damon lost a close friend to cancer six years ago and it is in memory of this friend that he's taking on this incredible challenge. The subject will obviously touch a nerve with many Coronation Street fans, particularly as we follow Hayley's pancreatic cancer storyline.
You can donate and read more about Damon's upcoming adventure, which takes place next week, by visiting his JustGiving page and you can listen Rhod Gilbert talking about it on Graham Norton's BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday morning. We wish Damon the best of luck!
