David Neilson on Roy's struggle

Digital Spy have an interesting interview via itv.com with actor David Neilson, who of course plays Corrie's Roy Cropper.

David talks about how Roy struggles to cope with Hayley's terrifying diagnosis in the weeks ahead. It would appear the normally placid, calm Roy finds his anger and by the looks of it, some of that anger will be directed at Emily Bishop.

Personally, I think this will be a good development as we will see a different side to Roy, and it will give David Neilson some challenging scenes to play. It will also be interesting to see Eileen Derbyshire become more involved in Roy and Hayley's story.

I think we all agree that both David and Julie Hesmondhalgh continue to turn in amazing performances. While it will be awful to see Hayley leave the Street, it is wonderful to see these brilliant actors given proper screen time once again.

That will probably be a result of Emily offering spiritual guidance and the like, i would imagine.

I think so. It would be in character for her to do so. I'm sure it will be an interesting watch as we don't get that many scenes between Roy and Emily.

Indeed. The patently absurd irrationality of religion, particularly in the circumstances, would infuriate Roy and his innate sense of the rational. Emily would be well advised to keep her gob shut.

Yes, heaven forbid that someone should seek comfort in something greater than themselves on an emotional and spiritual level at a very difficult and isolating time. What a foolish thing to try offer someone whose lost/about to lose a beloved spouse. That terrible Emily...

Wow! So our dear little Corrie is not only dealing with the deadly ramifications of cancer but is taking on the great moral debate of the role of religion! I didn't think tptb had it in them to be so controversial! This could get interesting!
As for the situation at hand, with the best of intentions Emily can't help proselytizing. Since her religious beliefs are such a comfort to her she can't grasp that they may not be to others, especially someone like Roy, who operates on the basis of facts, logic, fairness and justice. Roy is in shock and floundering in the awareness of the personal implications of the indifference of the universe.

I was moved to tears with the latest storyline. Brilliant acting from both Haley and Roy.
Sad to know Haley is leaving.

Will look forward to see how Roy will cope.
