I suppose it was inevitable that Karl Munro's days on the Street were numbered, given that any potential future storylines were reversed up the back ginnel and left for dead. For the rather good John Michie, it's the end of the line and in the next few months, we will get to see whether or not the long arm of the law catches up with him. Or maybe Dev will BELLOW at him while pulling one of those macabre jovial faces. Or maybe Karl will just flee from the High Priestess of Beige and her mean-spirited, unlovable mother, Boria.
Within the next twelve months we will also be bidding farewell to both Tina and Hayley. Of late, Tina has been a little more bearable, possibly because she has been offset against the increasingly weird Gary and the perpetually whining Izzy. Compared to these two, every line of Tina's is pure slapstick. The character's departure is a long way off and yet there is already a feeling in some quarters that her farewell will somehow be baby-related. I'm not so sure, given that the kiddie will be nearly a year old by the time Tina packs her hooped earrings and flees. It seems unlikely that Gary will be hassling her for twelve months.
Hayley's the departure is the one most of us will be dreading. Why? Well, it wouldn't feel right or do justice to the character for her to do a runner with someone else. Which leaves the Grim Reaper and if we are never likely to see that red anorak again, here's hoping the PTB wring every emotional drop out of Hayley's goodbye. Jamming her in the back of a cab with a half-hearted 'cheerio' would not serve her well.
For me, forever swathed in the mists of nostalgia, the Corrie farewells of yesteryear were always an event. Elsie's 'ta-ra' in 1984 was over-the-top but ticked every box. The same can be said for Bet and her farewell rant a decade later. Of course, we all remember Alma's demise and Linda Baldwin's nasty little victory smirk! I always thought poor old Mavis Wilton was a bit short-changed though as, if my addled memory recalls, she disappeared part-way through an episode.
Other than gory over-the-top show-stopping deaths, which characters do you think got the best send-offs?
Are there any new, inventive and relevant ways in which Tina and Hayley can be sent packing?

Elsie Tanner's and Hilda Ogden's for me. Classic Corrie and a tear jerker.
I enjoyed Claire Peacock's departure, with her Maria Von Trapp and kids hiding from the unjust hand of law.
I don't think the actress has said she would never be back, so I'm hoping Hayley will still be alive when she leaves the Cobbles. To have her die would just be unbearable to think about.. :(
Tina always needs money, so she enters a reality show, I'm The Sexiest Girl In The World Get Me Out Of Here, wins. Cameo appearance from Rosie Webster, who, upon learning of Tina's victory, kills her with a dose of poisoned fake tan.

Roy and Hayley go to a meeting of the Steam Engine Preservation Society in Birmingham. Roy, leaning too far over an atrium balcony to see the giant moving model train exhibit below, accidentally pushes Hayley over. She falls three stories, does not survive.
A ghost Sunita could appear at a party and drive Karl insane - it's a copy of Shakespeare, but the writers have copied everyone else at least twice so why not? John H
Sylvia medicated brownies get hard core. She is now hooked to the white stuff. Hayley, rushing to get to the faktry, grabs one of her spiked brownies and gulps it down as she hobbles. She does not make it to faktry doorstep. The requisite tube up her nose scene at the Wethy General follow, but sadly this time they cannot work miracles.
Tina's utterly selfish friend Zhin, or whatever her name was, is deported for attempted fraud. A hear-broken and very sorry Graham returns. The two leave together.
Oh, I do like the idea of Graham coming back, but I would rather he stays instead of running away with Tina...
I loved how both Jack and Vera slipped away. It was sad, but completely believable. I admit to a year or two. I could see Hayley going off to rescue children sold to brothels in India or fighting for factory workers' safety rights in Bangladesh. Then her and Roy could remain happily married, chat on Skype, and she could even visit Weatherfield from time to time.

Becky had a lovely sendoff, a real fairy tale. I also liked Karen MacDonald's departure after she'd lost all control and Steve had just reached his limit and asked her to leave though he still loved her. She packed a little bag and dragged it down the street with her head high.
Natasha's departure was wonderfully bitchy and I liked Liz MacDonald's final as well.
I would love to see the door left open for Hayley to return someday.
Since she wouldn't leave Roy behind without good reason, perhaps her departure could be connected to her son. He finds himself in serious trouble in some far flung land and has no one but Hayley to turn to. She rushes off to his aid (which could take a long time - be creative here, writers). This would leave open the possibility of return but, if the actress eventually decides never to return, they could have her die abroad at some future date. In the meantime, it would prevent the writers from any unfortunate pairing of Roy with anyone who is not Hayley.
I was going to suggest that too - something to do with Hayley's son. I would hate to see her die, as I want the door to be open for her return.

My favorite departure was Jack's dance with Vera. Given her tenure and how generally loved both the character and the actress were, Betty's was an abomination.
I want Karl locked up, and Stella to leave in shame.
Hayley has to die, because Roy will step up and be amazing instead of fumbling around in her absence if she went away. I'm already picturing David Neilson winning a best actor award. Tina, that's tougher. I always liked her, and wouldn't mind a Becky-like fairy tale with an open return ticket. She has no ambitions, but maybe she could win a lottery or something and go see the world.
No character is bigger than the Street and no matter how popular are soon forgotton. Tina could go off to be manageress of a Poundland somewhere. Karl will obviously be found out and arrested and go off to wear a tabbard in the Big Hoose. Haily is more difficult - a much loved character that would never leave Roy unless through death, so I suspect if the actress is adamant she does not want to return, Hales has to be killed off.
"I'm Kelly Crabtree! With the LEGS!" I loved thar exit, no black car, nothing gory or OTT. She wanted better and used those legs to walk away and get it.
