Coronation Street spoiler: Tyrone in shock abuse storyline

There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Sun that says Tyrone and Kirsty will be involved in an abuse storyline, with Kirsty beating Tyrone.

From The Sun: "At first the controlling girl cop — played by Natalie Gumede, 27 — will ramp up her psychological abuse and isolate Tyrone from his friends.

Then the mental torture will culminate in an explosive scene where she brutally attacks the easy-going mechanic — played by Alan Halsall.

Last night sources close to the ITV1 soap said show bosses were working with domestic violence charities to handle the subject in a delicate way.

One insider said: "This is not a decision we have taken lightly. Female on male domestic abuse is a sensitive area. Kirsty will be seen attacking Tyrone and the fallout will be how she feels terrible about it and attempts to show some remorse."

I love this idea. Tyrone is the kind of bird with a wing down who'd be vulnerable to a manipulative woman. He's already been psychologically pushed around by her, and with her policewoman background, it makes sense that she would be physical as well.

Bring back Ma Dobbs she would splatter her!

Didn't we have all this with Shelley & Charlie?

I'm not at all surprised since she's already showing controlling issues. Yeah, if Mama Dobbs came back and found out there would be nothing left of Kirsty but a few strands of that hair!

Yawn.

Would be nice if, just for once, they introduced a normal character for one of our regulars to settle down with.

Have they actually introduced a custom-made partner for anyone since Claire (for Ashley) almost a decade ago?

Isn't Julie and Brian a normal couple? Beside, it's a soap and normal is not ideal.

Shelley and Charlie.. The difference is, a woman is the victim. This time around, it is a man. I think it is high time they show male victim. There is some out there and no awareness for the victim support for the men.

I think there have been signs of this with Kirsty isolating Ty from Tina and Tommy. It'll be a change to have a man being pschycologically bullied instead of a woman.

Anonymous, I repectfully disagree.

In the programme's 'golden age', there were plenty of ordinary couples, who met, got married, had kids, and lived ordinary lives.

Fortunately back then, however, the show was blessed with storyliners and script-writers with enough imagination to craft enjoyable stories without resorting to rape, domestic violence and murder week-in week-out.

lets just hope Tyrone doesn't whack her over the head with a sharp ornament and end up in prison for 3 weeks...he must be one of the few street residents that hasn't been sent down.

Exclusive access has revealed the actual scene consists of Kirsty dressed in a leather studded corset, fishnet tights, thigh-high leather boots, and a whip in her hand when she sets about Tyrone, whilst he, is bound up in a shiny pvc 'gimp' suit with a ping pong ball stuffed in his mouth.

Ken is reported as saying we could hear screams of:
"No, Kirsty no! I really have forgotten what the safe word is. NOooooooo...."

Danny-K - if the subject was the abuse of women, would you have posted that comment? Domestic abuse against men is just as sensitive a subject and the stereo-type that men enjoy being abused does nothing to encourage men who really are being abused to seek help. Desite men being bigger/stronger than women, they have no socially acceptable method of "fighting back". Interesting to see that they are approaching this subject. To the "Anonymous" poster complaining about plagerism - does it really matter? When you reach the end of your life, will you consider this the best use of the limited time you have on this earth? Good grief!

For once I agree with Frosty......

Sorry folks. Have had to delete some more stupid comments. Wish people would take their medication.

How much can poor Tyrone endure! First Molly has an affair with his boss and friend, finds out his son is not actually his and now he is going to be pummelled into next week - give the lad a break. Could you please at least give him six months of happiness with a normal, sane woman for the next story?

- No chance of that in the forseeable future. As Kickingrabbit's post illuminates, there's to be no fun and games for Tyrone anymore. His character has been temporarily hijacked for the purposes of making a statement about 'issues' so that the po-faced can nod sagely that yet another issue has been ticked-off some imaginary do-gooders list and 'tackled' by a soap of the day, that hopes they get some credit for 'doing good'.

I agree with Danny K! Where is this imaginary list and how can we get rid of it?
