Peter is on edge waiting to get Simon from George and Eve's. More drama when Peter arrives as George informs him that Eve has already taken Simon to school. Leanne tells George that they'll pick Simon up after school and Peter asks for Simon's things. George is being more secretive and suggests he pick up Simon from school and will bring his things to the flat with him later today. What on earth is George doing with Simon? If I were Peter, I'd go to the school just to make sure he was even there. And rightfully so, since Simon was hiding inside with Eve the entire time that Peter was on their doorstep! Eve is uneasy with George's control over the situation. Simon asks if he can go home soon, and George pacifies him. He then tells Eve that he'll take Simon to school since he's got a meeting in town, to which this is the first Eve has heard of.
Leanne goes to Freshco's to get a dinosaur cake, strawberry jelly and chocolate fingers for Simon's return. Leanne and Peter are waiting with Claire for school to get out. Joshua comes out and tells his mum that Simon is gone, that George took him. Peter is about to blow his top and calls George telling him he wants Simon home NOW. Later, George arrives at Peter's without Simon wanting a chat about he and Eve keeping Simon for a bit longer. George disputes that Peter can't look after himself, never mind Simon. I think it's time to call the police now, Peter. Peter leaves to get Simon and threatens that George will never see Simon again. Leanne has it out with George reminding him that it's not his decision to make about what happens with Simon. Leanne finds Ken and says they're going to need his car.
Meanwhile, Peter is at George's shouting for Simon when George arrives to tell Peter that Simon's not there. George tells Peter go to home, but Peter prefers to grab a stone and smash in George's French door glass panel to unlock it. Peter cuts himself and George complains about blood all over the place, but Peter tells him it's best that it's his. Peter does a thorough scan of George's house and notices that Simon never even packed his stuff, therefore George didn't have any intention of bringing him back home. Ken and Leanne arrive and tell George to get Eve to bring Simon back. George says her phone is switched off. Peter figures they'll wait until Simon comes back then, but George wants him out. Peter finally calls the police. Eve shows up with Simon and George instructs her to get back in the car and lock the door, then wait until the police come.
They finally let Simon out of the car to take a wee, since he's "busting big time." Simon goes into the house to take a wee when the police arrive just as Peter and George are getting into it. The police recognise George and ask what the problem is. Peter tells the police that George has kidnapped his son. Of course, George spins the story around to make Peter look like the bad guy. If only Peter could control his temper. Peter starts shoving the police and ends up getting arrested for disturbing the peace. Also, poor Simon has to witness this as well. The police tell Peter that social services will now discuss what is best for Simon. George says he never wanted this to happen, but Ken tells him that he thinks this is exactly what he wanted to happen. Poor Simon watching at the window with tears streaming down his face as daddy is taken away by the police.
Gail looks out the window to Tina, who's looking back out of her window across the street. Gail offers a friendly wave, but it isn't reciprocated. Tina's wondering if Gail killed her dad or not, but figures the police wouldn't have let Gail go if they'd though she'd done it. Gail's rung NuNick, and he's also coming back, much to David's chagrin. Tina visits Gail and Gail assures Tina she hasn't killed Joe. Gail tells Tina the police were "asking questions, not answering them." David does his best to assure Gail that the police will be off her case soon.
NuNick arrives at his mum's and he's shocked that the police thinks she has killed Joe. David doesn't like NuNick arriving and usurping his thrown as the "good son." The police ring for Gail to let her know they're releasing Joe's body for the funeral. Gail lets Tina know that they can plan the funeral now. Tina and Jason wants to know where that leaves Gail, but she has no idea. Gail asks for Tina's help with the funeral arrangements. Gail wants Tina to deliver the eulogy since she didn't even really know him enough. Tina agrees that it's time to put all this to rest.
Meanwhile, the detectives visit Audrey at her salon to ask her some questions about Joe and Gail. They ask Audrey if Gail and Joe had any disagreements or rows. Audrey says there should have been a few average rows, then realizes if Gail hit Joe. Audrey says if anyone was a victim, it was her Gail, not Joe McIntyre.
The detectives take a drink in at the Rovers afterwards. They still don't know what to make of it all. Their presence in the pub is making Becky nervous and she wracks her brain wondering if she's done anything wrong. The detectives find Nick Tilsley next and ask him questions about Joe and his mum. Next, they go to Gail's to speak with David - alone. They realize that David and Joe didn't get along. Gail tells the police that she loved Joe and to leave her house, which they do.
Kelly's going on about how how Theresa tried to poison her husband and now she has access to them. Trevor overhears this, and Janice tells him that Theresa is the cleaner. Trevor is shocked to hear this about "Cinderella." He then sees Theresa come out of Underworld in her cleaners apron, and then Carla coming out of her Mercedes. He asks her why she didn't tell him that she wasn't the cleaner and she figures it would have been no fun that way. Like he even cares - he agrees to meet her for drinks tomorrow.
Kelly gets reprimanded at work by Hayley for shoddy workmanship, but Kelly's more concerned with bad mouthing Theresa. NuNick shows up at Underworld again (just can't get enough) to see Carla. Kelly drools over NuNick, and Theresa aptly points out that she has as much chance with him as Sean has winning Mr. Universe. Sean points out that Theresa has a face of a blind cobbler's thumb, and shouldn't be judging his candidacy for Mr. Universe. Zing! Carla reminds NuNick that she doesn't want a business partner in him and gives him the old heave ho. As NuNick leaves, he notices the googly eyes he's getting from the factory girls and smirks to himself.
The factory girls ask Hayley if she knows what Tilsley wanted with Carla. Theresa figures that he asked her out, and she turned him down. This only starts Kelly and Theresa getting in on it again. Later in the Rovers, the girls have their drinks bought by NuNick, in exchange for questions about Carla. Hayley mentions how she's enjoying her salsa lessons, and Kelly makes a dig on how watching her cut moves on the dance floor would be hysterical. Ouch! Poor Hayley. NuNick comes to chat up Kelly, much to her stupid delight.
Steve and Becky are still lovey-dovey and bab-makey. Good for them, barf for me.
John is looking through the classifieds in his teaching magazines and circles a job posting for "night school English Teacher." Back to the drawing board? He then spends his time correcting the spelling of Coronation Street residents that venture into Roy's Rolls in the most patronizing capacity. Everyone loves a teacher with a superiority complex. John tutors Chesney later with his Shakespeare for school. When Fiz isn't around, John applies for the teaching job.
HIGHLIGHTS
- David being there for Gail through this whole ordeal. Well, he does owe her after all. But, I like the new David. I was so bloody sick of crazy teen David.
- The digs back and forth at Underworld. The banter between the factory girls has to be one of my favourite bits of Corrie!
- Fiz happy with seeing John and Chesney get on again. I like seeing Fiz happy, but as long as she's with John, I feel as though it won't last long enough.
- Ken telling George that this is EXACTLY what he wanted to happen. Peter in jail, and he with Simon.
LOWLIGHTS
- George lying to Peter about Simon being at school when he was right there in the house the whole time! What is he playing at?
- Kelly noting that "nature is wonderful" if something like NuNick could come from someone like Gail McIntyre. Oh pshaw, NuNick isn't that hot, and Gail isn't that unfortunate. She just has bad hair.
- This contrived storyline of John helping out the denizens of Coronation Street with their readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in some build up to him realizing that he must actualize his calling as a teacher again. It's like something from the book of Who Cares.
- John suggesting to Fiz that he could become a masseuse. Yeah, because perverts are wanted in that line of work.
- Kelly making fun of Hayley's dancing at salsa.
- NuNick supposedly in town to support Gail, and all he's doing is trying to weasel his way into Underworld.
- Poor Simon staring out the window as the police take his daddy away with tears streaming down his face.
Looking forward to: Peter getting Simon back! That George is evil and manipulative.
NOT looking forward to: Whatever NuNick has planned up his sleeve.

Simon's lickle face yesterday - sob! Where are the Social Workers? They seem to be constantly absent in Weatherfield. Dont any of the factory workers remember NuNick when he was oldNick working at the factory before, he was totally useless and Mike Baldwin sacked him! I still find him a bit of a prat.
Nothing to do with this episode, but I just saw that Rita has a storyline on March 19th, so she'll be back by then at the very latest. Welcome home.
Who does George think he is? Why doesn't Ken stand up to him a bit more, he is Simon's Grandad too!!
And sorry, I can't take to the kid playing Simon, I think he overacts and I find him a bit creepy.
Peter is getting on my nerves too, why does he carry on like that, giving George ammunition?
Have to agree re. Stecky - stomach-churning. Make it stop. I always knew Grandad George was a psycho - and what with Granny Eve looking like she's escaped from a 70s Hammer horror flick, here's hoping wee Simon can run really, really fast.
I thought last nights episodes of Corrie were brillaint.
I am loving the Barlows vs George storyline generally. I was screaming at the tele. How can George get away with what he is doing. I am particularly enjoying Leanne's involvement. Brilliant character and i am delighted she has been parterned with Peter. A great move.
Glad to see Tina accept Gail's version of events. I know this doesn't remain the case in the long run but surely she can see that Gail couldn't hurt a fly?!
Loving Teresa at the factory. Another great move by the Corrie team. I like her fueding with Kelly, very entertaining.
Steve and Becky were pretty enjoyable tonight. Was good to have Becky back to her old fiesty self again.
Nick just isn't working with Ben Price. The casting was a terrible decision. I just can't accept him in the role at all.
@ SwampDuck - Agreed about NuNick.
@ John - Yes, this is fantastic! We need her back!
@ Dilly Daydream - I thought this situation could have ended differently if Peter had controlled his temper also. But, that's not Peter Barlow.
@ Peter - I can't believe George is getting away with it all either. Maybe when he and Leanne marry, Leanne can adopt Simon, so he has at least one reliable parent. Who thought i'd ever say that about Leanne Battersby! Although, I've always liked her. I love Theresa too! So glad she's working at Underworld! She has gobby factory cleaner written all over her since the day she showed up on set!
Agreed with NuNick. He just seems too OLD to play Gail's son. I don't see him "meshing" with the Platts well.
Teresa definitely will add to the already hilarious factory lot. I loled at Sean's cobbler's thumb comment, oooh burn! Looking forward to Carla and Trev's romance too!
Gail's blinking and whipering and 'good man'ing is getting on my wick a little. I am howevever enjoying the tasty policeman, the younger one, mmm!

George is a scoundral! Poor lickle Simon!
i knew george was leading up to this from the moment he showed up-hes always wanted simon and has set peter up for a big fall-just because hes in with the poilice he thinks he can get away with anything he wants
i dont usually like leanne but have warmed to her lately over her relationship with peter and simon she really cares about them-poor simon crying as his dad was carted off
if its the case of george thinking peters not capable why doesnt he let ken have simon-thats where his argument is flawed and its all been a big plan to get custody
