Sunita's Auntie is Dev's mother?
Tonight on Coronation Street, two of Sunita's aunts from India come to visit. The problem is that Sunita never told them that she was divorced from Dev so she asks Dev to put up a pretence for them. One of the actresses is playing Auntie Upma and she is Jamila Massey. You may remember her from several other soaps including Eastenders, Crossroads, Brookside and the Archers. She also had a previous role on Corrie as Dev's mother in October 2004! There's an interview on the BBC site with Jamila and she talks about filming this time around. They actually used an off-site location at a home for most of the filming which could make for long days. Jamila and Coronation Street also have something else in common. She is also celebrating her 50th year in showbusiness, having first appeared in a film 50 years ago, Sink the Bismark.

What a pathetically lame story, like the family wouldnt know that Dev and Sunita have been separated for about five years. Have to do better writers!
Yeah, I find it hard to believe that a secret like that wouldn't have come to light over the course of 5 years. No family photos being sent would have led to some questions I'm sure. And what was she going to do when she became engaged to someone else?
Have to agree. I'm not keen on the whole Dev/Sunita storyline either.
