Maggie Jones' memorial service at Salford Cathedral

The life of Coronation Street actress Maggie Hunt, who played Blanche Hunt, will be celebrated in a public memorial service on Thursday 25th February. The service will feature special recitals and readings by cast members, alongside a personal address by actor William Roache. Filming on the Corrie set will be suspended for the afternoon to allow cast and crew to attend.

Coronation Street Producer, Kim Crowther, said: "Maggie was such a wonderful character in real life, and just as unforgettable as her alter-ego Blanche. Still missed greatly by cast and crew, we always planned to give everybody the chance to celebrate Maggie's life, both on and off the street. Thursday is not just for the people that worked with her and knew her well, but also for the public who adored her - never less than when she was 'charming' the nation with her sharpest put down!"

Viewers will hear of Blanche’s death in May, and on screen the residents of the street will gather for her funeral, giving fans the chance to say one last goodbye.

Oh, I wish I could attend this. :( They wouldn't happen to be filming it, would they? Is that something that's not done?

Me too...I'd like to jump onto a plane and just go...

If it's not considered disrespectful, I wish ITV would film it. After all, it is a public memorial, soooo.... anyone got any connections to ITV to ask?

Salford Cathedral is only a few minutes walk away for me. Any idea what time the service is?

The service starts at 2pm. I hope to be able to make it as I live not too far away from there.

ONE OF MAGGIE JONES' VERY OLD FRIENDS AND FAN SAID:

Well it should be a fitting and lovely tribute to the greatly missed Maggie Jones. But at her actual funeral in London a few months ago - where were the Corrie actors then!

A few of the actors who went out of their way to attend the funeral were Kate Ford, Kate Anthony, Katherine Kelly, Chris Gascoigne, Sean Tully and Jenny McAlpine - well that's who we noticed entering the church. These actors should be commended.

I'm sure Maggie will get the 'public' send off that she so rightly deserves. MHDSRIP.
