Here's where you've seen Corrie's hostage negotiator before

Liam McMahon is the actor playing the hostage negotiator in Coronation Street.  He's been interviewed in the Belly Telly about playing his role in Corrie.

He said: “My mother had it well predicted. She said to me a long time ago ‘you will never be famous until you are in Coronation Street’. She passed away three years ago and she would have been very proud of this. That's the whole reason I did it in the first place - I knew she was orchestrating it from somewhere.”

Liam has already had roles in The Fall and The Tudors and movies Snatch, Hunger and ‘71 under his belt.

He added: “I am in both episodes on Monday night. It’s great both I and Kerry Quinn (Vicky, Tyler's mum) from Belfast were on the same episode on Friday night.

“I got a call in December from my agent to say Coronation Street had come looking for me. It gave me a laugh because I had a good friend in school and we were both very heavily into drama. She and I swore that we were going to be Jim McDonald’s niece and nephew one day and that we were going to rock into Coronation Street. Ironically she went on to become a teacher in Manchester and never pursued acting - but it took me 20 years and at least I’m in it somewhere along the line.

“When I took the call, I looked in the air and said ‘what are you doing mother?’ I got the part and shot it in the end of January. I had a great time. I am delighted to have done it because it is an institution and to have been part of that is an incredible box to tick.”

Next up is a 12-part Netflix series called Warrior Nun, which he has been filming in Spain.

Please can we have him as a regular, he's rather scrummy. We need some decent male eye candy on the street.
