Corrie plans alcohol relapse for Peter Barlow

There was a story in Daily Star Sunday (by way of Digital Spy) saying that Peter Barlow is to start drinking again in an upcoming storyline.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, Peter will go looking for Carla during next week's episodes, after she flees Weatherfield because of the Underworld roof collapse in which someone will die.

Interestingly, Chris Gascoyne told our blogger Martin Leay in an interview last year that if Peter staretd drinking again, he'd end up killing himself by drinking himself to death.

Martin wrote back then:  By his calculations, Peter has “already fallen off the wagon twice” so seriously that he nearly died. Chris Gascoyne reasons: “they always say that there are only three and he’s not got another one in him to recover from”. Therefore, if the writers wanted to revisit Peter’s alcoholism, perhaps because of something going wrong in his life… and it coincided with Chris deciding he was ready to leave for good – then he feels the story they’d have to do is where Peter “just basically drinks himself to death”.

Please no. Been there, watched that. Give us something new.

Please no, it is far too personal for me to watch. I will definitely be fast forwarding through those scenes. We really do not need to see another character self-destruct.

Peter was ruined for me when the writers brought him back with Toyah. If, after a few week, he'd reunited with either Leanne or Carla, Peter could have had proper storylines. Sadly, the Toyah storyline went on for too long and the same is happening with this 'will they/won't they?' for him and Carla. I've never been a Carla fan but I'm furious about what they've done to Peter (as played by Chris Gascoyne).

Why can't they cast the guy as someone who helps alcoholics. Summer helps out Peter and together they help folk from the halfway house.

Oh man, another recycled story. No thanks.
I'm even less interested in a story where he drinks himself to death.
Why can't they do something positive with his character?
Anon above me has a great idea for that.

Please Oh please can Corrie just lighten up! The storylines are so dark and argumentative they are getting to be boring in the extreme.

I have a huge issue with Gemma...please writer's stop making her eat like a pig. We don't need to see everything she eats...she stuff her mouth with food then keeps talking. Disgusting. Please stop.

Could this be the start of a mutually agreed storyline which plays out over the course of a year or two and sees Peter leave us? I hope not!

I'm actually glad they're returning to this. It's been five years since he last drank, so there's been a long enough gap. I think that the initial plan was to reunite Leanne and Peter and have them run the Rovers together as a result of the Toyah baby story. They heavily hinted at it from late 2016 to early 2018. I think Carla coming back made them rethink their plan. I've found the latest episode of Peter/Carla so forced and dull. I really hope Leanne is the one to save Peter from the alcoholism this time, but I highly doubt that'll happen now.

I don't like Peter. Or Carla. Sober is bad enough, but drunk? No thanks.

Boring boring boring! What happened to the storyline about Nick taking Audrey's money? Sick of Seb and his temper tantrums. Sick of Gemma and her awful eating habits. I would like to see more of Mary - now that's an interesting character!

Funny thing but the more I see people bitching about Gemma eating, the more they seem to have had her doing it. Any attention is better than none???

Hahahaha! Thanks for that.

I've always adored Peter, even back when he was a bigamist. Carla? Never warmed to her. I don't dislike her but I've found any storyline involving her to be arduous or just plain dull. And don't get me started on her "love" for Roy and Hayley. That was contrived and too little too late.
