Secrets of Coronation Street's missing episode

With thanks to our friends at Corriepedia for this interesting snippet of news about a missing Coronation Street episode.

Corriepedia asked the television organisation Kaleidoscope to help confirm if Episode 1202, which was originally aired on 24/7/1972, existed in the ITV archive as they had never been able to find a copy.

However, Kaleidoscope have now replied to say that it appears that the episode may have been destroyed.  It appears that Granada realised they had lost the full tape back in 1972 so they re-shot the eight minutes of material needed in order that they had no narrative break when they sold the programme abroad. Whether the tape of episode 1202 was actually lost or badly damaged isn't know. No footage from 1202 is known to survive. If YOU have this episode on tape or in your attic, do let Corriepedia and Kaleidoscope know!
