It's going to happen...

Peter is now single. Carla is now single. Not sure what happened about her fling with the doctor, Alex, Michelle’s son – but that had to stop really, for Michelle’s sanity.

Peter and Carla are circling around each other – Peter more than Carla, but it feels as if there is a certain inevitability to it. How long the writers will draw it out for is unknown. There’ll be obstacles along the way, one of which will take the form of Nick, who I believe is returning, perhaps even in a different body, as it is rumoured that Nick will be played by a different actor.

Will Nick have forgiven Carla? Missed her? Is he coming back to claim her? Will there be a High-Noon situation with Peter striding out of the Bistro and Nick emerging from Gail’s – Gail in hot pursuit?

Recently Peter asked Carla for coffee. At first, she refused, but then she relented. What’s more, Peter, always a man with a cash shortage, paid the bill. As ever with Peter, he pushed his luck and asked Carla to have dinner with him. That offer, she turned down. Never a man to give up in pursuit of a woman, next time the two of them bumped into each other, Peter mimed eating a meal. Carla’s expression towards him was most definitely flirtatious. It was certainly not a head shake to indicate no chance.

So we wait…

There won’t be a new actor playing Nick Tilsley as he will be played by Ben Price again. I’m not sure where these “rumours” have come from, but both Jack P Shepherd and Lucy Fallon have said they are looking forward to BEN PRICE coming back to Coronation Street

I very much hope Peter and Carla don't get back together. The joy of these two characters is the tension created by will they/won't they? scenes. There's much more fun in seeing them almost surrender to their feelings and then pull back; or, equally, being especially spiteful. They're not making the best use of Carla since her return. I could see her as a mentor to Gemma, giving advice on how to drag yourself up by your bootstraps.

In general Peter's character has been the same for nearly two decades now. He gets with a woman and eventually ends up destroying her in one way or another and then takes off for a while, and comes back some time later to do it all over again.

Carla has already been one of the losers so the writers rehashing this is a bad idea.

I have to agree with Humpty Dumpty. Peter and Carla have always been such an overrated pairing. It suited the story at the time, but to me it's not something that can be redone. I'd much prefer Peter and Leanne reunited but I don't think it's likely.

Peter has a more natural chemistry with Leanne, and feels way more relaxed and comfortable in his own skin with Leanne when compared to Carla, able to crack a joke or two. Peter was happy with Leanne and Simon but then became a miserable character to watch became suffocated in Underworld, compare that to how happy he was running the Bookies with Leanne.

I do find it irritating how they've teased as Peter and Leanne reunion for almost two years (Christmas 2016, the whole Toyah reveal, the false alibi, the surrogacy money, Christmas 2017 where Leanne stops Peter from drinking, the scene where Peter teases Leanne about her wanting to be with him, the obvious sadness Leanne felt at Peter having Toyah's baby and marrying her) only for it not to happen.

And then for them to do a total 360 and start teasing the Peter and Carla thing. I really haven't liked the direction they're seemingly taking.

I've never thought Peter and Carla were much of a match. Someone like Carla would not be interested in weedy, dirty-looking Peter. He's getting quite pathetic now too, when he keeps looking at her with puppy dog eyes. Wasn't that long ago he was saying that Toyah was the love of his life (yeh, OK).

I liked Carla and Peter but that may have been in large part due to two amazing actors who made everyone they were with better. (Didnt Carla also have a little fling with Peter’s baby brother Daniel?) that said, I’d still prefer him with Carla than Leanne. At least they are both broken people who have hit bottom and are beginning to surface. Peter and Leanne were more believable once, but I don’t see them getting back together now. They’d come between Leanne and Toyah for starters. He hurt her more times and in more ways than anyone should forgive. And they wouldn't be doing Simon any favors at this point - he’s a hot teenaged mess that nothing short of a stint in the Army will fix.

I just hope Carla's fierce rejection of Peter on Friday is the end of it. Carla's behaviour isn't always admirable, but she deserves better than Peter, as does Leanne.

I like how they've developed a supportive friendship between Peter and Leanne. It's nice to see platonic friendships on the street without "repressed feelings" and "sexual tension".

I feel like Peter/Carla was inevitable. I also feel like they will fall apart really quick. Peter and Leanne are the end game this is just another holding pattern until Nick comes back and they can milk the maximum drama out of it.
