Steve McDonald does something quite valiant for downtrodden Abi, who feels that her life is spiralling out of control again. Her kids have visited and in her eyes, it's not been that successful, as they wanted to go 'home.' So she gets them picked up and flees from Eileen's. Steve finds her and does something that not many have done for Abi, he listens to her.
This scene is really touching, as he then talks of his own loss and the mistakes he has made. This means that Abi feels like she is on an equal footing. But, this is Steve McDonald we are talking about and for the women in Weatherfield, he is George Clooney, so she-she makes a pass at him and they kiss. Two seconds later, Tracey arrives, none the wiser. It may not be November yet, but I spy some impending fireworks!
We go to Weatherfield General next, and we seem to be at the hospital more times than the cast of Casualty. And for those of you like shots of Rana's tears, you are in luck. Rana's panto villain mother says she is not welcome at her father's bedside. Imran has told Rana that her dad has had a stroke. She is really angry, as she explains to her mother that if she had contacted her, she could have helped and he might not be in this position. This is where Rana needs to force her way into the hospital room, as she is an adult, and her mother needs to move on. But, for more drama - you can see where this one is headed.
Gemma is feeling disappointed that her dream of moving into the Rovers with Jack Whitehall, I mean Henry Newton has gone sour. For me, Henry is part Nigel Havers and Hugh Grant. He does not feel real to me, and I have trouble connecting with him or this storyline. We could have had an Eliza Dolittle style plotline here, but instead, he flips flops from "I love you, Gemma" to hatching another scam. Not really sure who he is, a wasted opportunity but he is underwritten.
The real drama in the big reveal of the new landlord and landlady of the Rovers is the fact that Jenny is one half of the double act. Gemma flips out and fur flies, and she leaves the pub, feeling embarrassed and betrayed. Jenny is grateful that Liz is there to help her run the place, and Ms McDonald and Johnny share an awkward glance. People mocked Peter being behind the bar, with the temptation of drink and he did ok. But, this is something quite different. And Adams Family/The Connors will be the other side of the bar, dressed in black, mulling over how best to help Johnny, when the proverbial hits the fan.
Sally decides to have a fundraiser for Jack, in Speed Daal and Yasmeen is not impressed, as these two are rivals in true soap tradition. Geoff though, says it's fine. I think she should stay at the hospital, as we would still see him, given that someone is admitted there every episode.
There are many different plot lines, jostling for your attention this week. But, the main thing is with Jenny behind the bar, I cannot see it being dull. Have you seen her pull a pint?
See ya next week!

So sick of Henry and Gemma already. Please stop this farce!
I don't know why but I quite like Henry. Maybe because he's a bit different to the other men on the street.
