Some characters are like a breath of fresh air and Julie has always been one of these for me. She's never really been a front line character with major storylines but has always been a steady supporting character.
Her retro style always makes me smile and nod with approval. It's *so* perfect for her!
She's sympathetic and always wears her heart on her sleeve. She's honest and loyal and if she puts a foot wrong, it's always from trying to do the right thing. She means well.
I liked her and Brian together, I thought they were very Mavis and Derek-like but it was not to be. Pairing her with Dev seemed good but it's barely got started before it's going to end. He's off to India and Julie's portrayer, Katy Cavanagh, probably facing months without much to do aside from argue with Mary, decided to spread her wings.
Here's how I think Julie will leave: I think she'll go out to India to join Dev in his charity work with the children and she'll end up staying there. We all know how much she wants to be a mother and even though she could have had a read made family with Dev's kids, Julie's heart is so big that a team of orphans needing her would be just too much to pass up.
That's my theory. I'm sticking to it for the forseeable. What say you?

She's a good enough actress but was never given great stories. Hope they give her a decent dramatic finale storyline, going out to India sounds pretty lame to me
I'd like to see her move away to be with Brian. Prob not a very exciting exit, but a happy one for Julie. I too, was a fan of them as a couple.
Or perhaps she can follow a career move/path, which takes her away from Weatherfield.
Like you say, not a major character in the sense of the McDonalds, Platts etc.
But nor was she a 50 word extra (Ken, Emily, Rita etc)
She falls somewhere between the two. A shame really as I feel there is so much more they could have done with the charcter.
I too hope she is given a good and fitting finale rather than the lame and predictable exit of following Dev out to India.
I disagree with you Anon 11:10, why does every character need a dramatic exit?? An exit doesn't have to be full of drama to be a good exit. In life people move away and do new things. in fact I think spreading her wings and experiencing something new is exactly what this character would do.
I'd like to think that she adopts Fayes baby, giving her the child she desperately wanted and moving away to make a fresh start.
As long as Dev leaves with her.
While I like the idea of Julie going out to India as a volunteer, her relationship with Dev isn't strong enough for her to make that move. She's basically a homebody who wants a family so maybe Brian won't be her happy ending either. I'm guessing a lone father will be on the Street for a short time and they'll leave together.
I wish tptb would realise that the storylines have to be shared beyond the few favoured families. I'm not a fan of Corrie family sagas, anyway. We could have stories about rival businesses, caring for the elderly, loneliness, anything which involves a range of characters.
@Joanne Taylor: it's a nice idea but as far as I know, private adoption isn't available in the UK except between family members. Could be wrong.
I quite like Joanne's idea of Julie adopting Faye's baby....and if it isn't legal, perhaps Faye and Julie come up with a plan to give her the baby and Julie flees into the night.
Who knows, stranger things have happened in soapland!
C in Canada
Exactly that plot happened in Emmerdale a few years ago.
I don't understand why all the great actors are suddenly leaving Corrie. Must be something going on behind the scenes and I have a distinct feeling that it all has a lot to do with SB. Now Julie is leaving and it was just announced that Maddie is leaving also. All we will be left with are the same old shrill, worn out, depressing characters. I would rather see Leane go and keep Julie, maybe not with Dev, but at least find something for her. Get rid of whiny Sophie and keep Maddie - she works so well with the rest of the cast unlike one dimensional Sophie. I'm afraid at this rate Corrie st will very soon become the bottom of the barrel. No direction, no positives, just the same old, same old, blah, blah, blah
As predictable as it may be, I also think Julie would be very happy looking after a group of orphans. Maybe Dev will refer to how lonely and sad they are in his letters/emails, and she will start thinking about how she would like to help, etc., and things go from there. I would hate to see her reconnect with Brian, unless he's decided he wants to be a father.
I like the idea of her adopting Faye's baby too, but I can't see Anna letting Julie leave the Street with her granddaughter.
I don't really understand why they paired Julie with Dev, when they have known for months that he would be taking this leave of absence, didn't we first read about it shortly after Sunita died? So maybe they have also known she was going too for a long time, and used it to their advantage.
At first I was hoping that Brian would come back and say he can't live without her and has changed his mind on having a family.
I can't see any other good storyline-type or even believable story for her leaving....unless of course she has a sick relative to go care for ;)
I would really like to see Brian make a return, to scoop up his woman and whisk her back to Wales (I think that is where Brian headed off to, wasn't it ??) They were such a great couple...very suited to one another!
I hope Julie finds out through the community centre ta she is eligible for some type of government funding as a new entrepreneur and leaves to open a retro clothing store!
Frosty would also like to see her reunite with Brian. Let's face it this relationship with Dev has really never got off the ground. I hope Dev does not come back from "Mumbai", he should have moved there lock stock and barrell and taken his kids instead of unbelevably leaving them with the unbalanced Mary. We need new blood in the corner shop now.
I would like to have Eileen in the shop. Then maybe she could find love with a salesman or someone.
The 'Nice' Eileen and Tim. Now there's some fun.
I also like Joanne's idea of Julie adopting Faye's baby.Sarah was going to do that when she was pregnant before she was talked out of it by Audrey so why can't Julie?
I also agree with comments about how it's a shame that it's the same old characters who are steying in dragged out storylines while new ones leave.I for one with the exception of Audrey love to see the entire Platt family axed instead of characters being created or returned to justify storylines for them.
She never was given the meatier storylines except the one with Brian but that busted so they ended up thinking that pairing her up with a plonk like Dev was clever. Nope..clearly it is in the woman's best interest to move on. She's a great actor-better than most on this soap so good luck to her.
