Actress Katy Cavanagh has decided to leave Coronation Street at the
end of her current contract, she will be on screen until late spring.
Katy said: “I have decided it's time to take a break from the cobbles and pursue other projects and opportunities. I have loved every minute in the world of Julie Carp and I'm not
ruling out a return to the Street in the future. However I am looking
forward to a new challenge and a pair of flat shoes."
Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn said: “Everyone at Corrie wishes Katy all the very best and hopefully as
far as Julie is concerned, the cobbles haven't seen the last of her.”
I'm gutted. Another great one goes.

Aw, no! I love Julie!
Aw no, I also love Julie, a true Corrie character.
No doubt that Katy has not been happy with the fact that Brian was axed, but I did think there was potential for her and Dev. Shame. So when Dev returns, will Julie have gone?
Late spring? May-ish?
Damn. There goes any hope of Julie becoming the Queen of the Corner Shop. She really will be missed but I wish Katy the best of luck. The good ones always go and you can't really blame them.
Perhaps Julie just gets fed up with the arrangements Dev made in his absence. It would be nice if she had an upbeat ending and left with someone who would make her happy. Maybe Brian comes back for a couple of episodes.
She could have worn flat shoes behind the counter! Waaaahhhhh.
Another good one, out.
Corrie has been bumming me out a lot lately. What's up with that?
Let's not forget that Des is leaving soon too. So, perhaps together off into the sunset they go???.....
Who's Des?
Any chance she could take her sister with her? I detest Eileen with a passion.
Oh no, one of the better characters - what a shame!
Awww I love Julie. Good luck to Katy C. though.
That's too bad!
I'll never understand why actors will leave steady work with a decent wage for an unsure thing. Oh well, I guess that and a lack of talent is why in not an actor!
I'm gutted. Another great one goes.
This sums it up for me. And we are left with the likes of bloody vile Tracy and Callum. Thank goodness he will only be there for a while.
I'll really miss Julie and her retro style, I was hoping she would end up in the corner shop with Dev.
Please don't stay away too long, we want you back Katy.
That's a shame, she was a good character. Lots of comedy there which is missed these days. Now can she take the horrible grinning Andrea with her.
NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
I love Julie! She's quirky, has great dress sense and she lightens up even the most dismal of scenes.
Bummer!
C in Canada.
I'll miss her: lovely to have a kind, positive, quirky character on the cobbles.. and I really liked her with Dev!
Rebecca in TO
Sad to hear this. The list of likeable characters continues to shrink!
NO WAY!!! I'm crying into my mug of tea. Just when I was looking forward to her adventures with Dev and the kids and her retro clothes. Sad day. Good luck and best wishes to an excellent actress though for the future......but please come back some day!
Oh I've no doubt she'll be back if she doesn't manage to get other work.
Bummer!
CRAP!!! That is bad news. I understand that actors need new challenges, but it really stinks for us viewers. I was so hoping she'd marry Dev, kick Mary out, take over the corner shop and create a new Corrie dynasty.
I'm sad now.
Strange that shes leaving so soon. I'm disappointed as have always liked Julie and Katy has been really coming into her own recently. - Micky
Julie will be missed for sure, but it is a soap, and people come and go. Who knows, we may get a much better character as a replacement, or get better storylines for existing ones.
So disappointed about Julie/katy leaving the street. Dev is going too!! So is Katy, Owen, Eva, Deirdre has left us [much too soon] Robs out, Peter's out...and the sad thing is we aren't getting the same quality of new characters. The storylines are almost non-existent and now they are bringing back Sarah Platt to create some kind of chaos I'm sure. More of the same I suspect. I am very very disillusioned with Corrie St.
Such ....sad news.....gosh I will truly miss the 'touch of spring' that is Julie....colourful / bouncy / lovely golden locks....
I *hope* that she indeed will return one day....she was becoming a 'classic'!
Woohooo. One of those characters that just annoy me. Judging by the comments I am in the majority though.
Wonder if it's a bit related to the recent slap-on-the-wrist she got about doing a voice-over or commercial which is verboten while working on Corrie? Disappointing that she's leaving, I find the character/actress a breath of fresh air.
Julie has been a good character but has been a bit pointless and surplus since Brian's departure. I think its the right time for her to go and wish the actress the best.
Sad about that. Julie has come into her own since her relationship with Dev. She is loved by all, apart from Mary, on the cobbles too.
I would like to add my disappointment to Julie]Katy leaving. She was one of the few genuine characters on the Street and her recent bravery in the aftermath of the bus crash shown what a strong character she really is.I wonder though due to Corrie becoming 'Plattion Street'[As Frosty would say\that maybe the writing was on the wall for Julie in terms of lack of storyline ideas as the writers seem to focus on the same group of characters with the Platts dominating episodes.
I'm sorry Julie/Katy is leaving because she is such a great counterbalance to pompous Mary and priggish Norris. I too am sick of the Platt storyline dominating the street. Move on!
The show doesn't have so many positive, upbeat characters that they can afford to lose one. Julie was a nice counterbalance to the negativity that seems to pervade the street these days. Her contrast with her sister was an indication of that.
I hope it's not true that Katy is being forced out due to a company policy about outside work. With the size of the current cast and the infrequency of many characters' appearances it's unreasonable to expect actors to confine themselves to such limitations.
She looks a bit like Bet Lynch in your photo.
