Corrie fans vote for Tim and Sophie to run the corner shop

A few days ago here on the Coronation Street Blog we ran a poll to ask fans who they would like to see run the corner shop when Dev says bye-bye for his trip to Mumbai.

685 votes were cast with the majority of fans voting for Tim Metcalfe to run the shop, assisted by Sophie Webster.  In second place was Mary.  All of the results are shown below.

What do you think about Tim and Sophie running the shop? Could they do it and would it work for you?

In the section of votes called "Other", this was open for fans to write in the name of someone else they would like to run it.  The majority of these votes were for Sophie to run the shop on her own. One vote was even cast for Mavis to return. I can only agree.

Should have been a category for
NO SOPHIE at all. That would have topped them all.
That poor girl needs to stop her fake pouting and wake up and get a real life. She's too young and waaaay too boring and that shop-op is being wasted.

Can't understand this at all. Sophie is a dreadful actress.

Aside from the fact that she's a terrible actress, the character of Sophie has worked in the corner shop for a dog's age. Surely she could run the shop on her own temporarily.
C in Canada.

I have some sympathy for Brooke Vincent. She has become a Corrie product. The producers turned her into 'a Corrie babe' to attract younger viewers which meant it didn't really matter how she performed, she was always going to be kept on. Sophie was a bright youngster once upon a time, but all that's been forgotten. She should have gone to the local college but that wouldn't have been dramatic enough.

I'm sure if the choice had been Tim and NO Sophie, people would have chosen that. Sophie being picked as number one was a fluke as she was just lumped in with Tim.
She must have one heck of a contract because it sure seems that there are not many fans of the Sophie character.
The character is so dull and boring and too old to be acting so childish most of the time. And I pity the poor actor they bring in to pair up with her. That seems to be the kiss of death.

I'd actually like to see Sally and Tim run that corner shop together, with Sally trying to re-invent it to a more upscale venue with disastrous results. Agree that the Tim and Sophie choice was the winner, only because of Tim. Time for Sophie to either leave or have her character finally grow-up, get a better education and move out of Sally's place. Does she plan on working part-time in that shop until she's near retirement age?

Sophie was once a great character with snappy one liners and a great sense of humour. She has now been written as boring and one dimensional. Brooke Vincent is capable of better.

I agree with the annon above. I remember Sophie and Kevin having some fun scenes together, but when she got her Christian lesbian personality transplant it was all forgotten.

If I had my wish Tim and Craig would run the store -- now that would be fun!

Corrie is a soap, but even still young people today do get an education, except on Corronation Street. They all end up at the Factory, even the Nasahr daughter who went to designer college and could have her own boutique. They've done the wife abuser, now the child pregnancy twice, uneducated many times, adultry over and over, murder over and over, when are they going to do incest and child molestation forgot those story lines then they'll be current with the world. But not with getting an education for their young people.

Why is Tim a good choice to run the shop? Besides that he can't even read, what kind of connection does he have to the shop, have he and Dev even shared a conversation? Like what is the thought process of everyone who voted for him that said he would make the perfect person to run things? Did I miss something because I just don't get it.

Who would vote to be served by Sophie? I think those were actually voting for Tim who could make a career out of the corner shop. But we dont want the rudest laziest surliest shop girl in the world. I wish she would disappear when Maddar goes. Some hopes tho.

Have to agree with Anon and Rebecca. Sophie has been morphed from a bright, intelligent, funny young girl into an aspiration-less dullard. Everything she has ever fought for or done has been forgotten by the writers as they make her character ever blander. If I were Brooke Vincent I'd be off too, she deserves way better than she gets now.

Really? Sophie? What is she bringing to the shop now? The shop needs to brought alive with a character that's got a bit of oomph and sparkle not a cardboard cutout. A proper Corrie character. Julie would have been perfect, shame she's going. They are missing a trick by keeping Sophie in the shop when you think of whose been there over the years.

Sophie did run the store when Sunita died and Dev needed some time. I'm glad others remember that she was a very bright student. She went off rail when she was completely ignored by both of her parents while they focused solely on Rosie's dramatics. Is it too late for her to go to school and make something of herself, even if she had to stay on at the store part time?

I agree with the above poster who questioned the popular choice of Tim, given that he can't read and has no connection to Dev. It also doesn't seem like something he would want...I don't think he would enjoy that level of responsibility.

It's been a while since there was a shop assistant who made things interesting. I think a large part of that problem is Dev, and once he was paired with Sophie, things got really bad.

It would be realistic for Dev to get Chesney to step up and manage both the kabob shop and corner shop in his absence, but that would not solve the "boring" problem.

I would almost like to see Sharif take it on, giving him a chance to break out on his own and develop relationships with some of the other characters. I don't know if that's possible without a new assistant working with him, though.

Just wanted to add to my comment that Sharif already has a business relationship with Dev (the gym), so this wouldn't be out of left field.

No Laura, not another stereotype please......

If this did happen we'd have scenes of Sophie acting smug and smirking at Tim all the time making sarky comments. Dreadful character.
