What the flaming heck is a ha-ha?

Anyone else been wondering what a ha-ha is? Coronation Street's "scary" Mary Taylor keeps mentioning them in the context of posh weddings at country house hotels.

Seemingly, you can get double-sided ha-has, as well as single sided. Who knew? The one pictured, is a single- sided example.

I'm still a big fan of Mary. I'd like to hear her tinkling mad laugh again though - mentioning "ha-has" just reminds me of it and makes me miss it more.

OH thank you for this!
Yes, I was going to "google" Ha-Ha, but didn't get round to it.
I enjoyed Mary's amusing, yet 'negative' recollections of past weddings she's attended( and I gather it's a sort of passion with her) but her 'bullying' of Haley is making her 'scary' again, and I fear for her length of time on the street.

I fear for her as well, in that we won't have her long. Bully Hayley at your risk!!! One of the best things about Mary is her little passing cryptic comments about stuff that happened in her past, that make you wonder what they mean lol

Don't you watch any programmes about stately homes, English history, or Time Team?

Any well read person knows what a ha-ha is.

"At one wedding I attended, they found the Matron of Honour, face down in the Ha-Ha"

I love what Mary brings to the show.
Her way with words, fitting as a writer of marketing slogans, very quick and many times ( ouch! ) right to the point.

Of course there's an undercurrent of danger with Mary, but she plays her part so well, she's a delight to watch.

Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! is a small town in Quebec Canada.
Haha here means an archaic French word for an unexpected obstacle or abruptly ending path.
The exclamation marks were added colloquially and have since gained recognized status among Canadian federal institutions such as Canada Post.

So it is! That's interesting.
Trust Mary and her way with words to use an uncommon word like "Ha-ha".
