The paper says that actor Andy Whyment was in character as Kirk at the Manchester auditions, but Corrie bosses remained tight-lipped about his appearance - insisting it was for a stunt and NOT for a storyline.
However, over at rival tabloid the Mirror, they say that Kirk turned up for the audition as part of Corrie's 50th anniversary celebrations.

If he turned up as himself, then Andy would have sailed through given his performance in 'Soapstar Superstar). It would be interesting though to see & hear him perform as Kirk. Is he a good enough singer to do a 'Les Dawson'?
I'd love to see Kirk actually Wow the judges, a hidden talent for our Kirkeh!
He's a really good singer. I remember him well from Soapstar superstar.
kirk was excellent yesterday on xfactor, he sang-sex on fire, and he was by far the best act!!! its ashame he wasnt a serious act cos i think he would of gone far!!!
I'm rather intrigued by this. rich, were you in a live audience yesterday or has "Kirk" on The X Factor already been on the telly in some form, or what?? I think I'd quite like it if this was actually incorporated as a real story line, but even if it's just a bit of extra-curricular whimsy, it sounds like good fun. The special Jeremy Kyle episode was.
Oh I hope it is for a storyline. They need to find something new for Kirk to do, and to suddenly discover he could make a living as a singing sensation would be fantastic.
Can you imagine how Rosie would fall at his feet if he was suddenly famous. Only downside is that he would then have the money to buy his own house - away from the Street. But he may decide to stick to his roots and buy one in Victoria Court.
"Can you imagine how Rosie would fall at his feet if he was suddenly famous"
That could be absolutely hilarious!
He was immense! Excellent! Brilliant! If it was for part of the show, I can't wait to see it! If he was auditioning - well...he was good! Everyone was on their feet dancing and singing! And if it was a publicity stunt then it was a good thing as the audience loved it. ... we did see him outside learning lines before he went in though!
