Digital Spy reports this week that Sir Ian McKellen would love to reprise his role as villainous Mel Hutchwright in Corrie.As I've said before - go for it, Corrie writers! For one thing - he was hugely entertaining, and for another, we STILL don't know what happened to Emily's Dresden figurines - the ones he nicked off her mantlepiece.

Oh, yes, that would be wonderful. I love Sir Ian, he's a brilliant actor and adds a bit of class to whatever he appears in.
That would be so brilliant! Better still if the Book Group reconvened - what happy days they were: no-one except Ken reading the book, everyone else gosssiping and eating sandwiches instead, Ken telling Blanche "We're not going to be reading Mandingo"* and the wonderfully bombastic/sycophantic exchanges when the gloriously hammy Mel joined the group. Happy days indeed.
*Incidentally, since Mandingo got mentioned on Corrie the price of secondhand copies of the book have skyrocketed on Amazon. £38.50 for a tatty old paperback - they're having a laugh!
I forgot about the Mandingo line! I was in Barnardo's today as well - didn't check the bookshelf - drat!!
Sorry no, Mel was great at the time but left under a cloud, stealing from Emily. He had his "time" so to speak and should not be resurrected.
I was never a Corrie watcher back then so I wouldn't mind Sir Ian coming back and establishing a rivalry with Ken as to who's the Cobble's king intellectual. And Roy can come out of his shell as well. Besides, I want to know what happened to those figurines! Perhaps Emily Bishop might fall in love - she's still a beautiful gal, far more charming and elegant than Audrey, and I'd love to see a proper fairy tale romance for Ms. Bishop of the Cobbles!
If only Mel Hutchwright could come back! Ian McKellen was so funny! I did so love his quote about Ken Barlow. "Not so much Look Back in Anger as Look Back in a Rather Bad Mood." LOL! I laughed so much at that! Comedy gold!
