For ladies of a certain age (that's me included, then) news that Nigel Havers is joining Coronation Street will fair put a smile on their faces.
The official Corrie site says that BAFTA-nominated Nigel will play a character called Lewis, a charming gentleman escort who accompanies wealthy ladies to social functions. He will appear on-screen from December.

Corrie's getting a gigolo?
I always thought Lloyd would have been well-suited for something like that if he cleaned himself up.

Let's have good Christian Emily Bishop fall hopelessly in love/lust with this charming 'professional' gentleman. Emily sees that she's been good all her life and what has that gotten her? She's all alone, lost Ramsay and sees only a swift one-way collision with her own headstone...Perhaps her deaf niece will have moved in by then and she realizes that she's entitled to withdraw a small amount from God's Grace Account... and so it is folks, that Emily and Sir Gig fulfill her dream of parachute jumping, hot air ballooning...and even a trip on the Orient Express!
ooooh I think I;ll see if Emily needs another lodger!!
Let's hope he more success at it than Ken did. Didn't one of his ladies (Thelma ... pet?) die on him?
Always been a fan of the gorgeous Nigel Havers.
I have to say I have always loved Nigel Havers - especially recently in Brothers and Sisters (C4). And at an age where I really should be swooning over Peter Barlow - I prefer the old fashioned charm of Mr. Havers.
I liked Nigel Havers till I saw him wearing just a towel in that series about middle aged males (name forgotten). He looked a bit on the puny side.
