Sneak preview of tonight's double Corrie - Monday 10 September

Coronation Street, Monday 10th September 2012 at 7.30pm

IZZY FREAKS OUT OVER THE SURROGACY. It’s Katy’s eighteenth birthday and the day she and Chesney join Izzy and Gary go for their first appointment at the fertility clinic. Here Tess, the unit counsellor, challenges Izzy and Gary about Katy’s suitability as a surrogate. She points out that due to Katy’s age she may not be emotionally strong enough to deal with surrogacy. What if she wants to keep the baby? Gary wonders how this is possible. The baby would be theirs! Tess points out that the natural parents need to adopt the baby after birth. It’s up to the surrogate mother whether or not she gives consent to this. Izzy states she has confidence in Katy but she’s clearly shaken by what Tess has told them. Back at No 6 everyone’s preparing for Katy’s birthday bash. When the party is in full swing Gary notices Katy drinking and he suggests to Chesney that she shouldn’t be. Chesney snaps and a row escalates until Izzy makes an announcement that will leave Gary stunned.
TINA’S ATTEMPT TO BUILD BRIDGES FAILS. Kirsty and Tyrone arrive home with their little bundle of joy. Tina’s relieved when she finds out mother and child are well but when its clear she still bares a grudge against Kirsty Jason tells her he can’t believe he once felt sorry for her and Tommy. Now he reckons they’ve brought their bad luck on themselves for being so mean spirited. Tina doesn’t know how much she can take how ever much Tommy insists they’ve got each other. Tina insists they have to go round and see Tyrone and Kirsty. But how will Kirsty react when they arrive at No9 bearing gifts for the baby.
DEIRDRE IS SHOCKED BY TRACY’S LATEST FLING.  Deirdre returns from her trip to see Bev to be greeted by Tracy coming downstairs with Ryan. She tackles Tracy. Why the hell is she going out with Michelle’s son of all people!  Steve and Michelle arrive hoping that Deirdre’s sorted Tracy out. Instead they discover a cosy domestic scene. Over a dinner Ryan has charmed Deirdre. Is she already thinking of him as one of the family?
Elsewhere Gloria treats Stella to a spa day, reassuring her that she’ll be fine running the pub in her absence, but Sean is soon miffed by the changes Gloria makes.

IZZY REACHES A HEARTBREAKING DECISION. Izzy tells everyone she can’t let Katy be her surrogate because she won’t let it tear her family apart. There’s no turning back. Her mind’s made up. Her party ruined, Katy feels dejected despite everyone assuring her Izzy’s decision isn’t about not trusting her. Later Gary’s emotions escalate when he tells Izzy that he should have been given the chance to have a say in her decision. Concerned about what she’s doing to him, Izzy tells Gary that he deserves the chance to have a family and her next decision leaves him reeling.
RITA COMES TO TINA’S AID. Tina and Tommy, stinging after their spat are faced with Jason. He can’t believe they went over to No 9 after everything Tina did to Kirsty. He tells them he has a move in date for Julie and Brian. He wants them out the flat. Tommy and Tina feel the pressure building and have a row. Tina flees from the flat and is found by Rita, crying on Maxine’s bench. Will Rita give her the solace she seeks or a healthy dose of tough love?
GLORIA PUSHES STELLA TO BREAKING POINT. With Stella out of the way, Gloria asks Karl to help behind the bar in the hope that it may impress Stella upon on her return. Not only that, but she continues to make changes, upsetting staff and customers alike. When Stella eventually returns, she kicks out Karl and rows with her mother. Gloria threatens to leave but Stella calls her bluff. Could this really be the last time Stella sees her mum?
Elsewhere Tracy is really starting to get to Michelle and Chesney comforts Katy following Izzy’s decision.

Wasn't it only in July or early August when Chesney's 18th birthday party was disrupted when Izzy suffered her miscarriage? Baby Joseph's christening was then ruined when Izzy and Katy's surrogacy plan was revealed. Now, things don't look to good for Katy's 18th birthday party! It seems as though any celebration in the Windass/Armstrong family ends in tears, arguments and drama.

I'm thankful that Izzy comes to her senses tonight, even if it means her relationship with Gary is now in jeopardy. I still don't understand why they couldn't have tried again for another baby - they needed more time to discuss and consider it. The same could be said for their adoption plans. Whatever may happen, I hope it's not the end of this couple. They've done well since they got together in late 2010 and this is even a Soap!

done done done and done again.

Steve and Becky rowing after Tracy losing the baby saying it was Becky's fault..no one would believe Becky - Tracy's winding her up.
Roy's mum started making changes in the cafe while they were away upsetting the customers and staff etc etc.

Note to writers...new ideas...go and get some.

I want to know, did my eyes decieve me tonight?? Did izzy get up off the sofa and walk to her wheelchair??? I thought she was paralysed???

I thought the same thing about Izzy when she got off the sofa and walked to her wheelchair.
I just want to know what's happened to Ken!!

Izzy isn't paralyzed, she has a syndrome that causes her joints and bones to be very painful at times and she can walk a little, usually to get out of her chair and into a booth at the Rovers or into a chair at home or to the loo.

Ken's probably learned that one of his ex-girlfriends has cancer or one of his son's has died. Or, he just can't stand the sight or sound of Tracy any longer.

not every wheelchair user is "wheelchair-bound" - just because they can stand for short periods or walk short distances does NOT mean they are NOT disabled.

Am I the only person who was really irritated by Chesney tonight? I understand that the whole situation is awkward and difficult for him, and I get why he feels a bit put out but he was acting so childish and selfish. Ok, in all honesty I don't think Katy is mature enough to be a surrogate, but she's not old enough to be a mother full stop. When he was talking to Izzy about how hard it was with Joseph, saying how much they needed a break, she felt bad because they're just kids. All i could think was- 'tough sh*t!' Chesney and Katy chose to be parents - they actually tried to get pregnant at 16!! And what, not at one moment did they think it would be difficult just on the money coming in from a market stall? ( What idiots would take a six month old on a flight all the way to South Africa anyway? I was on a plane coming back from San Francisco, 13 hour flight, two babies screaming all the way - that was a real fun time!)

What really got me though, was how insensitive he was later in the pub. Saying it wasn't Katy's concern anymore, is he just an idiot or are all men such insensitive dolts. If my sister was hurting as much as Izzy was, it would be my concern, especially if there was something that I could have done to help, and couldn't anymore.

Sorry for the rant but he really irked me tonight.

Interesting comments, Cathy; I actually agree with much of what you say. I also found Fizz (with the champagne bottle) irritating tonight but then again, I usually find Fizz really annoying. These extended family scenes with the Windasses, Armstrongs and Browns can become awkward at times and I actually prefer the more intimate scenes where there are fewer characters. I really felt for Izzy and Gary tonight. I think it's fair to say that they would make great parents and would probably be better than the majority of the parents with young children on Corrie - many current characters come to mind! I can understand why both are so desperate to have a family too, especially when you consider their own upbringings.

By the way, I recall Izzy standing up at the pub in one of the tram crash episodes. We have seen her standing up in other scenes this year, too.

I actually thought it was Gary who was acting childish tonight not Chesney (WHY is Fiz always hanging around the irritant). Rushing out in a huff and crying like a toddler in the later scenes, you can almost hear him - I wanna be a daddy boo hoo, stamps feet". You need to grow up yourself mate before you bring a child into this world.
