Michelle Keegan says "I'm not sexy"

In spite of winning numberous "Sexiest female" awards, Michelle Keegan really doesn't think of herself that way. In an interview with the Sun today she says:

"I think people vote for Tina. She doesn't wear tight clothes, she doesn't wear loads of make-up, she's quite plain, I think girls can relate to that. I think they find that she's so confident, a bit sexy."

Michelle's usual off-screen look is very laid back, no makeup, comfy clothes.

Meanwhile, she's overwhelmed at winning an acting award and never pictured herself in that position. "I still have to pinch myself a little bit. I still can't believe I'm working on Corrie let alone being up for an award." Michelle credits her recent storyline in a feud with Kirsty as something she could really get stuck into and enjoys working with co-stars Alan Halsall, Chris Fountain and Natalie Gumede. She hopes Tina's warnings about Kirsty's true colours will soon be believed by everyone else because life is a bit tough for Tina at the moment.

This is one of those situations that annoys me, I'm afraid. Someone with little to no background in acting not only gets herself onto something as big as Corrie but wins award after award... for little more than looking good. It's a shame for actresses who work hard to get their big break and have some serious talent.

I agree with you. If scowling and shouting were an award winner Teenar would be getting a Bafta, another pretty but pointless and terrible actress Sian I hear is being brought back. Now if she were not pretty would that still be the case I wonder?

Have you met Michelle? Have you seen Michelle acted in another show? Then how do you know that all the scowling and shouting isn't an act. Before Suranne Jones left the show to work on other shows. I thought Karen was not an act, it is part who she is. But now I can see Suranne is a talented actress. Don't judge what you do not know.

Michelle is a good actress who never lets herself down. She was the only one to stay plausible in the terrible Xin saga. She always turns in a decent performance. People may not like the Tina character but that doesn't mean she is badly acted. Perhaps people envy Michelle's beauty?

Let's not forget that the actors are very likely following the director's instruction and the writers are trying to convey something. I expect if we were in the position Tina's in, we'd be shouting too.

Why is it that when someone says something negative about the skills of a person who happens to be attractive, it's dismissed as little more than "being jealous" of that person's beauty? That is both jeuvenile and sexist. Michelle herself has made several comments about her lack of acting experience and a person doesn't need to know the actor to recognize talent. Perhaps those obsessed with Michelle's looks should look past their own noses and consider what's actually being said.

What's "actually being said" is that Michelle is a poor actress when I've seen no evidence of that in all her time on the series. I would say she's one of the best among the younger cast. I have never seen her give a bad performance. I don't always like Tina, because she is often too aggressive, but if I dislike a character it doesn't then follow that it's badly acted.

I agree with the last comment, I think Michelle Keegan does a fine job with the character.

she's my favourite actress and character on Corrie. I want to see her and Tommy win the lottery and rub Kirsty's nose in it!
