Coronation Street Episode Monday 13th August

Remember when Brian and Cathy were talking about opening a shop and before they got to the idea of hardware, Cathy suggested fancy dress and Brian pooh-poohed it? The number of times the Street residents dress up fancy would make it a mini goldmine. Anyway, the Fun(draiser) Day is in full swing when a cop turns up to arrest our Sal for bribery, fraud and money-laundering. Tim asks Adam to represent Sally, but finds out that Dastardly Duncan has appointed Baldwin & Habeeb. The coppers have some dodgy phone records that show "evidence" of Sally and Duncan's "affair" and bank statements that show the £1000 that Duncan deposited in the joint account that Tim thought was a bank error. Sally pleads her innocence and everyone says they believe, whilst looking like they don't.

In business news#1, Yasmeen turns down Geoff's offer to buy into Speed Daal. You can't blame her; people don't want to find white rabbits in their sag aloo. In business news#2, Alya says she will sell the factory back to Carla so that she can invest in the family restaurant. Considering that the factory has been going for donkey's years, despite fire, flood and owners using the profits for their gambling habits, and most new restaurants fold within the first year, this seems like a poor decision. But you know, family. Carla breaks it to Maria that she can no longer invest in Perm Suspect#2 and Yasmeen breaks it to Alya that Carla's discount purchase won't cover Imran's share. Alya goes back to Carla that she now needs double the amount, but Carla can't afford it, although she says that she can. Hmm, I wonder who has just come into some money and also fancies Carla like heck?

Sean's homeless friend Frank comes into the pub and Jenny asks Sean to get rid of him. Frank says he will leave if Sean gets him a voddy, but when Sean tries to fulfil this request Jenny catches him and sacks him. How much lower can Sean go?

In relationship news, Dev is getting fed up of Gina's over-exuberance and something something wedding anniversary blah blah Jude and Angie. Really, would anyone care notice if these two fell in the canal?

I don't understand the point of this fraud story. It's getting kind of boring that a fiendishly clever, charming man cons a gullible woman out of cash and she ends up in prison. Will Lewis do the same with Audrey/Gail? Not only boring but sexist: it's never a gullible man as far I can remember. There's no tension here at all because we're all assuming the real villain will be exposed and I'm guessing Sally will emerge as a local hero. But the storyline was flawed from the beginning. Who would ever think they could get away with a bank error of £1000? Gemma, maybe, but not Tim who's far too clued-up to think he'd get away with it.

Jude and Angie - leave now! You have added nothing to any plot line, not even Mary’s.

Won't the police be able to trace that the texts were sent from the same place? Via the signal from the mobile phone mast that was used?
