From The Street to Scarborough

I've just returned from a wonderful weekend in Scarborough where we took in a play at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. The play was Hero's Welcome, the new play by Sir Alan Ayckbourn which premiered in Scarborough before it goes on tour nationwide.

Anyway, there we were, watching the play, when himself leaned over to me in the dark hush of the theatre and apropos of nothing whispered three little words in my ear: "It's Greg Kelly".

My brain whizzed back and forth, wondering what he was going on about and then the penny dropped.  It was indeed Greg Kelly.  Acting there in front of us in the play was actor Stephen Billington, who played Greg Kelly in Coronation Street.

Greg, you might remember, was the son of Les Battersby.

Greg got himself involved with Sally Webster and ended up kidnapping her along with Sophie and Rosie.  You can find out all about him on Corriepedia.  It's fair to say that Greg Kelly on Corrie was a nasty piece of work.  In Hero's Return, Stephen Billington's character isn't much better, but he's excellent to watch and the play is superb.

Also in Hero's Welcome was Ena Sharples. Well, it was actor Russell Dixon who played Ena at Corriefest. He also played Audrey's date Henry in Coronation Street too.

Before we went to the theatre, we had a pre-theatre meal at the award-winning EatMe Cafe in Scarborough. It has a lot in common with Nick's Bistro, just with less olives.
