Though what we did see was noticeably bigger, while still remaining that Coronation Street look, I have to admit I was quite surprised by how much it actually resembles the old street on screen, the people behind it have done a fantastic job.
We didn't just get a new street tonight, the titles were finally updated to reflect recent changes on the street, with Nick's Bistro now appearing at the end of the street, and a new shot showing the Kabin and Viaduct Street, showing off the new full length viaduct (that used to cut off just after R'Terry's old club).
The new shots in the opening titles seemed to be a bit more in focus too, compared to how they used to look. I can't wait to see how they begin to use the new set in the months to come, could we see some new business' crop up? Or some old business' blow up?

Was it me or did the windows of the Kabin shake when Tim cleaned them? It was like they were loose. I dread to think what Norris would say if they broke :p
I don't know, Chewy, they still look incredibly blurry to my eyes! I have completely stopped watching the opening since 2010 as I just hate the blurriness! I did check it out just to see, but will continue to not watch the opening.
I have to agree that they have done an astonishing job in recreating the street and sets. Even though I spent last night looking for differences, it was hard to find any.
I wonder how long before they let us see any wide angle shots of the street?
Still think the opening credits are awful, yet at this rate will end up being some of the longest running opening credits in the show's history.
We keep hearing that the new set was built to stand up to the rigors of HD television, so why on Earth can't we see it in focus?
For me the biggest surprise was seeing "that tall building" at the end of part one. Considering they've deliberately shot at angles for years to avoid that appearing on the other side of the viaduct, it is ironic that it is now being featured in an ad-cap.

John McE - this sequence has to be used for another ten years to equal the amount of time that the 1976 (and best ever) sequence was on screen.
I think they've tried to adapt the old studio building to look like a wall on the Jubilee Terrace side of the viaduct.
They could have got rid of the first 6 seconds of the opening manchester scenes and added more street shots.
You can bet your life in a few months they'll add a new business to the street which won't be added to the titles making the titles look outdated again. Just like the corner shop went through changes just as the titles got updated.
