Tyrone to fall for Maria - again?

There's a good Coronation Street teaser in this week's fab Inside Soap magazine, about Tyrone and Maria.

As Tyrone comforts Maria with a friendly hug after her break-up with Marcus, Fiz spots them cuddling on a park bench.  However, the cuddle isn't as innocent as it seems - so maybe Fiz has a right to be concerned.

Inside Soap says the picture of Maria and Tyrone looks like they're about to cross the line and share a kiss.  And indeed, it does.

Remember that Tyrone and Maria have history, they used to be engaged. And, as the mag points out, with Kirsty having been released from prison recently, Tyrone is set to go through a hard time which could see him act distinctly out of character.

Not another sodding affair!!!

I am NOT going to like this! We had Tyrone sneak off with Fiz, after Soames, so why ANOTHER affair?! If he'd been annoyed Fiz spent too much time with Roy and Hayley, I could maybe understand it, but Tyrone HELPED Fiz through that.

I think ITV is clutching at straws. There are so many other affairs they could jack up if they wanted:

Tony and Jenna
Lloyd and Liz
Julie and Steve - joke.

No, I am NOT going to like Tyrone and Maria. I like Maria playing hardball since Marcus went back to medium wave.

I hardly watch Corrie anymore and it isn't hard to see why. It seems like they rotate the characters through affairs with each others--utterly ridiculous! Really sick of the whole show.

Newsflash to writers: nobody wants another love triangle. Here's the list: Peter/Carla/Tina; Nick/Kal/Leanne; Dennis/Rita/Gloria; Marcus/Maria/Todd
Steve/Michelle/Andrea;
Sally/Tim/Kevin
I'm sure I've missed a few but so not interested.

What are the writers thinking? Why is it that they are so hooked on affairs? Two little kids get screwed again by the so called elders in their lives. I do so much faster forwarding now that it won't belong before I will record the program and then just delete it.

Oh my. Is this all that Corrie writers can come up with?

Not another flaming affair!!! What a manky street it's getting with all the bed hopping going on. Yuk! Smelloid

I do quite like the idea of Fiz being miserable tho.

Nothing new here then.

Although I think it would've made more sense for Maria and Tyrone to get together after Molly died,I wonder if their affair is linked to the Kirsty storyline?Perhaps it's Fiz who is sending Tyrone texts as Kirsty,he finds out and dumps her?Fiz has been controlling of Tyrone and Roy and perhaps she does this to 'protect'Tyrone.

It's almost as though they put all the names on dice and throw them to get the people for their ridiculous love triangles, can't they have at least one normal week on the Street.

Oh puke:( The show is now even worse than when Stella was at her ubiquitous worst. I will have to seriously consider whether it's worth continuing to watch if this is the best Mr Blackburn and his team can concoct:(

I can't believe this: is nothing sacred?
Ty and Fiz, finally together, a more down to earth guy and girl you couldn't find.
I know, they've made Fiz all but unbearable lately, and why?
She's working, he's working, they have their home, their friends, their little ones.
They've been supportive of one another, they're steady!
Now they want to fabricate another affair, pulled out of nowhere, to mess things up.
Sick to death of infidelities on this strip of street.
I would say too many characters, therefore too many 'explosive' story lines to dream up, but how did it keep going so well for decades when there were only a handful of characters to write interesting lives for?

I would quite like to see Maria and Tyrone back together, I think they're a lot better suited than Fiz and Tyrone.

But I don't want another love triangle and I don't think I could watch more of Fiz moaning and whinging.

It's more than likely Maria in her imminent breakdown, going after Tyrone as a rebound thing and she'll also be angry that Fiz had an idea about Todd and didn't tell her.

I've realized lately that I'm tired of trying to rationalize the ridiculous behaviour of so many people on that street. If I have to work so hard to make these stories plausible and believable, than maybe the show isn't worth the effort.

It saddens me that Mr Blackburn is allowing the show to fizzle out. I miss the Coronation Street that I have watched and loved for decades. Is there no way to save our show from this man and his unimaginative writing team? Hardly anyone we know watch anymore. My husband is even losing interest..all I have left is you lovely people who are just as frustrated as I am.

Not to worry, Fiz will soon get back with Kirky, they have a history too, leaving Beth hurt and she will seek comfort with Steve, breaking Michelle's heart who will then have another fling with Peter as she did once before, annoying Carla who in drunken stupor will....

Are you taking notes writers?

Oh so they are going to break up another little family?! What a sad state on our poor little street right now. How much more I can stand of the ridiculous shenanigans I don't know!

Tyrone and Maria have moved on as characters since they were together. He needs Fiz, somebody far more down to earth. They are well suited as a couple and it's only just over a year since they were running off wanting to be together. Besides he wouldn't cheat not after what Molly did to him, he knows what hurt like that is.

What are the writers smoking? Leanne and Nick were only together 5 mins before splitting. Injury or not, go back to the days of Stan and Hilda, Vera and Jack it would have been unheard of to break up because of an accident - that's what in sickness and in health means. And Leanne was hardly married to Nick two years before that. Now, Peter Barlow couldn't even make it through his reception before the writers made him cheat......!

Now boom..... couples are lucky if they make it past a year.

Is this what SB thinks we want to see? Is this 'explosive' television? His head must be a sad messed up place!

Mr. Blackburn I have to echo the sentiments of many of the other commentators....a BIG ===PASS===on that direction you may be taking with Ty and Maria... NO....NO....NO...leave the Ty/Fiz family scene ALONE!

I feel sorry for the writers. 'Write what you know.' I guess they don't know much about real life.

If we know one thing about Tyrone Dobbs, he is loyal. In the real world, a person like that would never cheat on his partner with her best friend. If we know one thing about Maria Connor, she is a sweet. A person like that would never steal her best friend's partner.

So, writers, what planet do you live on? Maybe it's time to bring on some 40 somethings who've actually spent enough time in life's kitchen that they can cook up something besides grilled cheese.

Oh for goodness sakes - been there done that already. Maria is a pointless vacuous character that is exhausted now in my opinion. She wouldnt be interested in the doltish Tyrone any longer now she has grown up. And as much as I dont like Frizz-bun, all she and Ty went through together with Kirsty, its pretty incredible that he would go back with Maria. It seems that the writers are just out of ideas and we have the affair merry go round which is boring.

abbyk: yours is the post of the day on this subject.

What I'm thinking happens is they take all the character's names, toss them in a drum, shake it up and pull them out one at a time, so one week Maria will be with Marcus, ok..break them up with a ridiculous plot and next week she'll be with Tyrone. Now..what to do with Fiz..ok..roll the drum..out comes - Jason. I don't think he's bagged her yet - I might be wrong, or maybe pair her up with Roy. What would be wrong with that? Makes as much sense. Blackburn et al are a bunch of horn dogs imo..all they can manage to think of is who is getting into who's knickers. Why don't they just put them all together in Nicks' and have an all out orgy..get it out of their systems.

I agree; Abbyk said it best.

The longevity of a married couple on Corrie is next to nil, there's something definitely wrong here.

Short attention span some viewers may have, but the writers are taking the most calamitous of a human being's life events and bombarding the viewer with it relentlessly day after day.

I've long-since reached the saturation point.

Rebecca said...

No! The Street needs a family or two who stick together through the good times and the bad -- you know, like real life people do! We've lost Jack and Vera ad Roy and Hayley, why can't they at least leave us with Fiz and Tyrone?

Anonymous said...

Well said Rebecca.

Fiz and Tyrone were one couple that you would imagine, due to their steadfast, down to earth personalities, would remain steady.

Especially so after their featured story showed them doing all possible to get together only a year ago.

If the writers think they're clever by making Ty and Fiz behave in a way no viewer would suspect, thereby heightening the 'wow' factor, then they've failed miserably, in this viewer's opinion, anyway.

Do they think a woman cannot be on her own for 5 seconds without snatching an attached man from a friend? It is well known that a woman can survive without a man! Leave Maria on her own for a while, develop another storyline for her - maybe a pregnancy with Marcus as the father. She can then be off screen taking the child to visit Marcus in London or whereever he is going.

And next week Sally is heartbroken when she finds Tim playing with Kev's spanner and Tim admits Kev is the Webster he really loves... Kal gives Audrey a rubdown that gives a new meaning to working out, but will Leanne guess the reason why her Grandma in law has a new spring in her step...

And in other news, Coronation Street ratings fall off cliff.

Anonymous said...

You cannot have a normal family on the street. They tried it with Ashley and Claire Peacock and nope..had to kill Ashley off and Claire fled to France - never to be seen or heard from again. So, the viewers don't want nice and normal. At least the ratings don't reflect it. If you want change - stop watching - ratings will fall and they'll replace the producer and a few writers.

I don't think it is such a stretch that Maria turns to Tyrone in her "hour of need" and Tyrone responds to her. He was devastated when she cancelled their wedding. Marie has grown up since then and might be emotionally capable of appreciating Tyrone now. I remember Maria waxing Ty's body because she wanted him to be less hairy and he let her do it because he loved her. There is not so much chemistry between Ty and Fiz as there was between Ty and Maria. I think there is still unfinished business between Ty and Maria. Not that I am looking forward to the disruption in the family life of Tyrone and Fiz but the pairing of Tyrone and Maria is not such a stretch of the sense of reality as some posters seem to think.
Only my humble opinion...
