Peter has realized that Carla is the one for him, this week anyway. But as we all know, Peter's not the most decisive of men and he wants to please everyone. He also knows he's not really the strongest of men and will bow down to the pressure of his responsibilities when he sees that sad little Simon-face. Leaving Leanne isn't going to be as straightforward as he thinks.
And I think even if he does manage it at some point, the odds of he and Carla going the distance are stacked pretty high against him. I just can't see them as a long term couple, raising Simon and any other children together as a happy family. I expect there will be a few twists and bumps in the road yet, though, and I've done a longer blog post about it over here.
I know Peter and Carla as a couple have their fans. I'm not one of them but since soaps thrive on triangles, I guess we're in for a bit of back and forth between Peter, his wife and the other woman. Good thing I do like all three characters, and actors, at least.

I agree. Peter and Carla will burn out fairly quickly in the face of too many obstacles. Peter is a brilliantly drawn character - great writing and, of course, outstanding acting. He is in complete denial about the reality of his situation. They are like two kids playing make-believe. Eventually, a grown-up (in this case, Leanne) will shout out at the back door that it's time to stop playing. Peter is an addict: booze, cigarettes, adrenaline rushes. The thing that gets him into most trouble is his addiction to danger. Wherever he's not meant to be, he just can't leave it alone. He needs a real wake-up call. Maybe Simon will have an accident or get ill, and Peter will realise where his responsibilities lie. In addition to Peter's woes, Carla likes to win and once she's got the prize, where's the fun?
They should be together...pair of scumbags.
This pair deserve each other, all that silly skipping in the park, she a head taller than him and him in his Al Capone striped suit.
Ugh.. had to stop reading the episode review at Digital Spy because it was full of comments by die-hard Carla fans about how eternal Carla and Peter's love was, and how they deserved to be together, and Leanne's a slut anyway. Like reading the Carla and Liam threads of a few years ago, with Leanne replacing Maria.
Why on earth does a strong, attractive woman like Carla always need to chase after someone else's husband? Ugh...
