Katherine Kelly to leave Coronation Street

ITV have confirmed that Katherine Kelly will leave Coronation Street next year, the exact details of her exit are as of yet, unknown.

I personally am happy she is leaving, when Becky came into the show, she was interesting and unpredictable, when she moved in with the Croppers, she became lovable.

When she moved into the Rovers, she then became repetitive and boring. Constantly messing up Steve's life for her own gain, I hope we see a spark of the original Becky when she goes.

I think it is such a shame what the writers have done with Becky. Another classic case of overexposing a character until they have been through so much they are constantly moaning and miserable. In the old days characters would take turns with storylines enabling a period of rest between 'biggies'. That way they have a longer life span- look at everything Diedre and Gail have been through but because they have been rested for periods invetween they continue to be great characters. Becky has peaked too early and now the only way is out for her- shame.

I am not surprised Katherine Kelly is leaving with all the complete twaddle she has been asked to do in the past year.

I hope that it's not too similar to Karen's exit, in that we see Tracy try to up one over Becky time and time again, and Steve just can't take it anymore and kicks her out. I stand by what I wrote on March 22nd in response to Chewy's entry, 'Time for a divorce, Steve': I'm not saying Tracy is a saint in that it's a coincidence that she's in Steve's life while his last two marriages have been on their last legs, but she's definitely not the cause of the deteroriation in them. The problems were apparent before she tried to get close to Steve and at the end of the day, he couldn't help but end up despising Karen. One would hope that we aren't going to see Tracy as the catalyst to a potential Becky exit, but it could definitely be there if she's staying on into next year (last I heard Katherine Kelly was contracted until 2011, so until I hear otherwise, I'm almost expecting Tracy in aroundabout way to cause Becky's exit). Please writers, forget that Becky is a fiery character who clashes often with Tracy. Forget that Tracy has managed to give Steve a child, a gift that Becky is unable to do. I'd love to say forget that Becky is a livewire, but ultimately it's going to obviously be an action that leads to her exit that meek and mild Becky probably won't be seen for much longer!

awww no way, Becky is my favourite coronation street character. I'm going to be devastated when she leaves but its her life and at least corrie bosses are leaving the doors open for her, incase she wants to return.. which i hope she does soon after deciding to leave. Katherine Kelly is an amazing actress and will be missed hugely. Dreading early 2012 when she leaves :/
Wish her all the best with future plans though :)

I have to agree about Becky. She was one of my favorite characters. They started nailing her coffin shut (and to the greater extent, Steve and Liz's) when they introduced her sister Kylie and nephew Max. The final nails were driven in with the tram crash and Tracey's miraculous return to the street.

Leaving next year? Dear God, have we really got to put up with this appalling character for another year or more? I don't think I can stand watching her slither around like a boa constrictor for that long. Couldn't John Stape kill her next week? Pretty Please.

We're many months behind here in Canada but over the last few months, the writing of Becky's character has been all over the map.

For me, Becky used to be a great character, she was built up perfectly over a long period of time and you really saw a change in her when she moved in with the Croppers.
However all this stuff with Max, Steve and the Alahans is ruining her character and I hope the producers don't destroy her character completely before she leaves so that if the door is left open for a return we will be grateful for it.

I love watching her and Steve together. They are really believable. A great double act.
I don't like what they're dong to her, throwing everything bad at her.
I do love watching Becky.

I think Katherine Kelly is a great actress. However, Becky was far too over exposed with too much screen time as the "flavour of the month". The pairing with Steve never gelled for me, and the groundhog day that their marraige has become bores me to tears and her selfishness and the way she sucks the life out of Steve, and the ridiculous Maxhay business has made me really dislike the character. I too dont want to see her for another year and she could leave next month and I would be happy. I read that she smashes up the Barlow's house with a sledgehammer on yet the umpteeth drunken rampage, so I suspect they will either section or or send her back to jail where she really belongs.

Completely agree with the first post. It's such a shame for Katherine Kelly. Too much exploitation of Becky and 'explosive' story lines. Becky is a multi-dimensional character and her interaction with the Croppers is fantastic. She should never have married Steve. The constant 'drunken outrages' are just another example of lazy writing. If she gets drunk that often why isn't she in rehab?

A great character, great actress, great waste.

Good news IMO, I'm sick to death of Becky. All the best to KK.

Such a shame as Katherine Kelly is a terrific actress, one of the best they have. They've ruined the character with over exposure until we are sick of Becky and there is nowhere else for her to go. Shame, shame, shame as we are left with insipid nobody's like Maria and even Sunita who have long passed their sell by dates.

I have never got tired of Becky and i will miss her but the writing has been on the wall with all the things she's been doing that's been dragging Steve down further and further.

Thank God I never liked her much and her constant stupidity and entitlement made it worse she jumped the shark when she looted the corner shop.

John McE......I was hoping Becky would kill Stape and Fiz, let off for temporary insanity (though how can you be insane for wanting to kill Stape and Fiz!) for being mentally incapacitated....go for a rest in an institution, then come back again in the future. : 0
Agree with the over saturated use of Becky in dramatic storylines, propelling her from one to another. Good luck to Katherine K and please come back...

Becky is the most colorful character since Blanche and aside from Tina, the only one with good teeth. What's with that? If Becky goes, so will a lot of viewers. Tracy's character is the one that's the most unrealistic. She's irritating and so is Marc. Get rid of those two and keep Becky please!

Er, catch yerself on Anonymous. Corrie has been an Insitution for 50 years, viewers are not just going to stop wathing because Becky isnt in it! Like others before her she will be soon forgotton.

Becky has been my favourite Corrie character for a couple of years now; so sorry that she's going to be leaving. I would have loved to see her happily settled down as Mum to Max and Amy, and wife to Steve but after all we are only talking about soapland, and I guess she wants to spread her actress wings :(. Good luck Katherine.

Becky Becky Becky!!! Time to go. I think this young lady is an amazing actress. Hopefully if she goes she can come back a more mature and straightened out lady with a husband who has taken Becky under his wing and made her feel wanted and cared for. Just an old romantic here.

I love Becky! She is far too good an actress for Corrie though. She's also probably fed up to the back teeth of all the crap the writers keep throwing at her. Will Steve ever grow a pair? I don't think so, and he and Tracey are such crappy actors!

I am glad Becky is leaving for now, what a dream for her to be living in a pub. She drinks more than I thought was humanly possible. I love her soft side, but the writers have made her character so stupid and the fact she turns to booze big time EVERY time something goes wrong in her life. I am surprised she has not put Steve out of business in the pub by now.

NO, NO, NO, Becky can't be leaving the show!! She is an awesome actress and I LOVE her attitude. !! Steve needs to find out what a cow Tracy really is and how she REALLY lost the twins. They really need to create a long term relationship between Becky and Danny and keep her on.
