ITV accepts apology from Ryan Russell over sexist tweets
Coronation Street bosses have accepted newcomer Ryan Russell's apology over offensive sexist remarks he made on Twitter a few years ago.
The actor, who has been cast as Michael Bailey and is set to join the ITV soap later this year, was revealed to have made sexist comments on his Twitter page between 2011 and 2013.
Ryan later issued an apology for his offensive language, and now a Coronation Street spokesperson has confirmed to Digital Spy that the soap's showrunners have accepted the actor's apology after they met with Ryan to discuss the social media posts.
"Ryan Russell has apologised for the social media posts recently brought to ITV's attention which he admits he posted between 2011 and 2013 when at university," a spokesperson for Coronation Street told Digital Spy.
"The tweets in question are no longer in the public domain and were deleted by Ryan in 2013 shortly after they had been published because he realised they were offensive and regretted that he had posted in this way.
"He has spoken with producers today and given them assurances about his conduct, values and behaviour."
