I've enjoyed Coronation Street these last few weeks, I really have. Performances have been top notch, storylines are breaking and there has even been some cracking lines from unexpected places, at least for me.
In no particular order from this week's shows I found the following pleased me to no end.
Gail working very hard to outshine Katy in the gym. She makes me laugh when she talks about all these plans she has or when she was talking to the customers about muscles and workout benefits like she was born to it!
Izzy put Sally in her place splendidly! Sally rocketed up the high horse when she imagined Carla would be relying on her to carry the load over the next few months and blagged a cream cake in the process. Izzy shot her down with two words. Modus Operandi. Look it up. Excellent!
Liz is back! I don't know where she's been but she was back with a vengeance, tearing a strip off Tina for letting Tracy get to her yet again. A proper landlady back in charge!
Kirk is always so loving and protective of Maria. What a great big brother he is! Maria's gone off the deep end and he worked hard this week to be there for her and fuss over her when she went silent and he thought she might do something stupid. He then managed to talk Tyrone and Fiz into dropping the charges so she could go away for awhile and get her head together. He's such a star!
I like how Kal's dad, Sharif, is softening and being a bit more supportive of his son than he was when he first came on the show. He's showing a softer, more caring side even if he doesn't really think Kal's making a good decision. He can see Leanne makes Kal happy and it's what Kal wants. He can also see things are not going to be smooth because of Nick but he's on his son's side anyway.
Kal looks at Leanne with puppy dog eyes and he really seems to know the right things to say when he puts his mind to it. How can she resist? She can't!
I have been enjoying the story with Maria, Tyrone and Fiz. It's been a good twist to her broken heart over Marcus. She latched on to Tyrone as the good man that got away and had herself convinced that she could talk him back into her bed even knowing, down deep, she was in the wrong. Great performances all around. Lovely having Audrey's support and it was a good move having David find out early and watching from afar like a bemused Greek Chorus.
And I have been enjoying the love affair of the year, watching the pressure mount on Peter daily as he backs himself into a corner, telling people what they want to hear but not really believing any of it himself. Rob now knows the truth because he couldn't see a way of bluffing out of it in the end. He's stringing both Carla and Tina along when all he really wants is a drink. He loves Carla and he never loved Tina but he's a weak man and wants to please everyone. It seemed like he did mean it when he said he'd leave with Tina but I don't think he ever thought he'd go and now with the crisis over the baby averted, he's sure to stay with her.
Even Tracy had me hooting this week with her caustic comments to Tina about Tina being no better a barmaid than her father was a swimmer. I laughed at her open invitations to her engagement party with the incentive of a free bar to lure guests to show up and I'm not surprised she's dipping her toe into illegal waters by offering to drive the van of stolen goods for Tony. She thinks she's untouchable.
Yes, Corrie for me this week made for good telly and I for one am looking forward to the events of the next week or two.

I think taunting someone about the death of their parent is just plain nasty.
Anonymous, although I agree that taunting someone about the death of a loved one is nasty, so is trying to steal someone's baby out of spite which is what Tina wanted to do with Jake Windass. Liz was right that Tina should've known better and frankly after seeing her dumping drinks on customers and also making nasty comments to the punters, perhaps it's time Tina gets a dose of her own medicine?
I'm afraid that the only thing that pleased me from Tvor's list was Liz McD tearing a strip off Tina. Sally eyeing the cake in Carla's office; Tracy's panto villain remarks to Tina; Kal and Leanne trying to contain their passion; all of these were too much and too awful. Oh yes, one other good thing - Kirk turned up trumps for his sister.
I agree with every word. I'd also add that I really laughed when Eva told Leanne she walked in on Eileen and Sean arguing over who would win a fight between Carol Smilie and Lorraine Kelly.
Anonymous 19:16, I think my point was that Tracey taunting Tina about her father's death didn't strike me as comedy.
Anonymous, Tina dumping drinks over customers because she didn't like what they had to tell her doesn't strike me as 'comedy' either.Although I agree that Tracy went too far[nothing new there.], at the same time it's hard to feel sorry for Tina who started her affair with Peter while Carla was supporting Hayley who was terminally ill and expects him to leave his pregnant wife and son for her.
Under normal circumstances, Tracy taunting Tina aobut her father would be horrific but it is so typical Tracy and i took it as very dark humour. It's not real life, after all.
Was it just a coincidence that the majority of the female cast were wearing pink in Friday 23rds episode?
I think we''ll have to agree to disagree on most of these!
I think we all realise it isn't real life, and that we are expressing our opinions on the events of a program. And those opinions will vary.
Not even going to comment when there are such sensitive souls about. lol
I loved Liz saying to Tina about Tracy "...even the Pope knows she's a cow!".
I have no qualms heaping on the compliments for the acting efforts but the continued low quality development of characters and the plot direction results for me anyway in dissatisfaction. Tracy can be a cruel cow but she doesn't consider herself cruel or even evil...misunderstood yes and mistreated ---SHE feels most of the time SHE is the victim and when she takes liberties like stealing or killing, it is because the Others or the world at large leaves her no choice. This is the comedy and the tragedy behind a villain such as a Tracy Barlow so I found it odd that she delved to such an obvious cruel level just to insult Tina. The Tracy we love to hate would have made a meal out of her newfound status as business owner and lorded this fact over to lowly barmaid Tina.
So sorry I am not enjoying the current episodes as I feel as though I am watching live people act out in a cartoon ...I keep hoping the intelligent adult version will play soon...
Really, The police are called upon to deal with Maria whom they have known for years and has a son Liam to care for but there is to be no police involvement as far as Kirsti is concerned ? Doesn't come off credible at all...serves only to give Maria something to do and Kirk as well. Just awful and awkwardly juvenile story execution...
Both Sally and Gail are continuing to be portrayed as buffoons as they age. I am sure this is not the intent but that is the result of terrible comedy.
There was definitely police involvement when they thought Kirsty was behind it all. In fact, it was because the police told Fiz that Kirsty was out of the country that she called the number and discovered Tyrone answering Maria's phone.
I like Tracy....certainly, she's panto but she hasn't used a child as a way of inveigling herself into the bed of his father. She also hasn't used her faux concern for the homeless to trawl for a lesbian partner among the down and out denizens of the soup kitchen.
Me, I'll be glad to see the back of Michelle Keegan.....she may get the big storylines but she's a lousy actress. Keegan emotes whilst Catherine Tyldesley and Tisha Merry act their little socks off.
Oh, and Audrey rocks every scene she's in.
I fully agree about Kirk, his relationship with Maria & the way they look out for each other has always been a Corrie highlight for me!! Her relationship with Audrey is another one, so sweet!! Love Kirk & Beth against my original better judgement!! Wish SB had at least tried to follow up the Maria breakdown s/l otherwise what was the point bringing her back from Cyprus when he did since she's barely had more than half a dozen scenes since her return in june!!!
